Thereafter Commissioner Bunker moved the appeal of the granting of this Use Permit to the Catholic Church be denied. Motion seconded by Commissioner Fountain and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and Mayor Baker voting aye; noes, none. At the hour of 8:55 P. M. the meeting recessed and reconvened at the hour of 9:10 P. M. with all members present as of the opening session. An ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE NO. 712 TO REGULATE AND CONTROL THE POSTING AND MAINTAINING OF OUTSIDE ADVERTISING SIGNS OF MOTELS, MOTOR COURTS, HOTELS, AND LIKE ESTABLISHMENTS; PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION THEREOF; AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH, was read by title and referred to Commissioners Bunker and Sharp for recommendation. Commissioner Fountain introduced and moved the adoption of the following resolution: WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners deem it advisable to promote industrial development within the area, and WHEREAS, it appears that industrial development can be augmented if there is land available. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Commissioners of the City of Las Vegas, Nevada go on record as favoring the introduction of a Bill by Congress permitting the State of Nevada to acquire certain Government Land in Eldorado Valley for the purpose of industrial development. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this resolution be forwarded to the Nevada Congressional delegation. Motion seconded by Commissioner Bunker and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and Mayor Baker voting aye; noes, none. Commissioner Whipple introduced and moved the adoption of the following resolution: WHEREAS, many Hungarian refugees have arrived in the United States after their escape from Russian tyranny, and WHEREAS, these refugees will become American citizens in due course, and WHEREAS, Katherine and Tommy Rodnoti are the first to arrive in Southern Nevada. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of the City of Las Vegas at a regular meeting thereof held on the 16th day of January, 1957 that Katherine and Tommy Rodnoti are welcomed to the City of Las Vegas by the Board of Commissioners and the citizens of Las Vegas and are extended the privileges of all its citizens. Motion seconded by Commissioners Fountain and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and Mayor Baker voting aye; noes, none. City Manager Kennedy stated that pursuant to the request of the Commission he had conducted a survey of the liquor licenses and found that at the present time there are no package liquor licenses available. He further reported that the City is over the quota on tavern licenses which is the result of annexations where taverns were already in operation. Commissioner Bunker moved this report be made a part of the minutes. Motion seconded by Commissioner Sharp and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and Mayor Baker voting aye; noes, none. An ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 7, CODE OF LAS VEGAS, NEVADA, 1949, AS AMENDED BY ORDINANCE NO. 728, BY PROHIBITING THE PLACING OF WRITTEN ADVERTISEMENTS UPON STRUCTURES ON THE PUBLIC RIGHT OF WAY; PROVIDING CERTAIN EXCEPTIONS THERETO; PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION OF THIS ORDINANCE; PROVIDING OTHER MATTERS RELATED THERETO; AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH, was read by title and referred to Commissioners Fountain and Whipple for recommendation. City Manager Kennedy requested permission for the Fire Department to purchase additional fire hydrants at a cost of $3,640.50. Commissioner Bunker moved this request be approved and a purchase order be authorized in the amount of $3,640.50 to Mueller Co. for fire hydrants. Motion seconded by Commissioner Sharp and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. Mr. Kennedy presented a request from Sally Mancini representing the Advertising Research Institute that the solicitors license be reduced. Commissioner Sharp moved that City Manager be authorized to check this request and if there is justification to reduce the fee, the request be granted. Motion seconded by Commissioner Bunker and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and Mayor Baker voting aye; noes, none. City Manager Kennedy requested permission to purchase a fog spraying machine. He advised the Commission that the City has two machines in operation at the present time, but that one of these machines needs to be replaced. Thereafter Commissioner Sharp moved permission be granted to advertise for bids for a fog spraying machine. Motion seconded by Commissioner Bunker and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and Mayor Baker voting aye; noes, none. City Manager Kennedy requested that a resolution be adopted authorizing two signatures on checks from the Bond Redemption fund.
