Water Supply at Las Vegas Los Angeles - June 12th, 1924 Mr. A. Maguire - While a t Las Vegas la s t week matter o f water shortage at that p oin t, both fo r ra ilro a d and c ity supply, was causing Mr. Bracken and the Mechani­c a l Department fo rc es considerable anxiety and water from new w e ll was running to w aste. Went over situ a tio n with Mr. Bracken and tfrred to put p art o f the w e ll water in 12” concrete pipe from spring as th is pipe appeared to be flow ing about h a lf f u l l both above w e ll and at point opposite same. This attempt was not su ccessfu l, due to developments la t e r showing that grade o f concrete pipe was not uniform and eviden tly had an a i r pocket between w e ll and forbay. To get ad dition al water in forbay caused temporary flume 1400-ft in length to be constructed and the entire flow o f w e ll is now going to forbay w ith the re su lt that f u l l head at th is point is being obtained and surplus water wasted a t forbay. Am ju s t in re c e ip t o f message from Mr, Bracken sta tin g temporary flume solves a l l trouble, la rg e volume and fin e pressure. So need to pump fo r soften er tanks. This temporary construction w i l l cost us in the neighborhood of $200.00 but p r a c t ic a lly a l l m aterial used can be salvaged with the construction o f 16” wood stave pipe which, according to work order, extends from w e ll to box located about 3 0 0 -ft. south o f forbay. I t was necessary to take immediate action and flume presented the only way out. It s construction w i l l n ec essa rily be an Operating expense charge and as such w i l l not show a d eviation from work order au th ority. However am planning on puttin g forbay at w e ll allow in g spring served by 12" concrete lin e and the w e ll to empty into forbay, go through to box at the head
