After the meeting adjourned, I had a talk with Mr. Butterfield, one of the Directors of the Water District, who expressed considerable surprise at the attitude of the City Commissioners with respect to buying the Water Company stating that the Directors of the Water District had had several talks with the Commissioners and thought the matter had been .straightened out and the District would be the purchaser of the Water Company. I told him our offer to sell was still open but that the sale would be for cash and we would not give any consideration to taking any bonds for payment. I imagine, in view of Commissioner Bunker’s motion to demand that the Public Service Commission require the Water Company to augment the present water supply, the Commission will set this matter down for hearing some time within the next sixty days. After the meeting, I talked the matter over briefly Commissioner Williams, who stated that at such hearing the Commission would probably have Mr. Shamberger, Assistant Water Engineer of the State, testify with respect to the investigation made by the Commission a few years ago. In view of the fact that the hearing will probably be assigned to Commissioner Smith, the Water Engineer of the State, who as you know has collaboratedwith Mr. Shamberger, in making the report, I believe the Commission will probably find that the ohly immediate solution is to reduce the consumption of water by preventing the waste of water although that is merely, at the present time, an assumption on my part.
