\ 4, The total BM'ser of housing units embraced within the fore** going is 1144, Of said total number our survey shows that 4§Q are new oooupiad, leaving 694 available for future occupancy, and we are advised that as soon as City sewage facilities are available the majority of said 694 houses will be ready for occupancy, 5, In addition to these developments* houses are being constructed just outside the city limits adjacent to the Rancho Vegas which will be available for rental purposes by people employed in or around las Vegas, 6, We contend that said 694 houses and the other housing facilities now in the course of completion in and around Las Vegas, are ample to meet the present and future needs for housing facilities in Las Vegas, and in this connection we represent; 7, The demand for housing in Las Vegas has been principally caused by the activities at Basic and at the Las Vegas Gunnery School* We attach hereto a chart furnished by Me Soil Construction Company, showing the actual number of that Company*s employees between September, 1941 and March 23, 1943, and the number of employees that Company anticipates it will have employed from said last mentioned date until Its construction contract is completed. This shows an anticipated decline of approximately 1000 employees per month from March 23 until July 27, 8, If must be obvious to the Commission that as these McBeil employees are released, they will seek employment elsewhere in the country, increasing to that extent the availability of housing accommodations in Las Vegas, 9, We further attach copies of letters from Basic Magnesium, Inc,, dated February 20, 1943, and March 10, 1943, respectively, showing the number of its employees on those dates; the approximate number of permanent employees after completion of plant; where their said employees live; the housing facilities now available; and the projected housing developments at Basic, 2. i r * -
