March. 30, 1925. ¥.0. 4707 Mr. ¥, M. Barr, Consulting Chemist, Omaha, Hebraska. Dear S ir: As requested in your B-951 of March 23rd, I enclose herewith detailed estimate, together with drawing Ho. S-235J also print showing entire pipe lin e and work pro* posed in connection with Las Vegas water supply, as contemplated "by 1925 Budget Item Ho. 98. The work proposed by 1925 Budget Item 98 involves a portion of the work under existing AFB Request Ho. 228 approved September 18, 1923, in that Mr. Mann now recommends that we modify present authority to Include only new well and fence around Big Spring, replacing buildings, 300* of 8" and 2400 * of v it r ifie d pipe from springs, also concrete forebay. This w ill enable proceeding with work contemplated by Budget Item 98, on basis of in sta llin g concrete settlin g basin with 40’ of 20M wood stave pipe and Excelsior f i l t e r in water softener, also replacing 1460’ of 12" and 370V of 16tt VC pipe encased in concrete with the 1816* of 24” wood stave pipe, as it is very desirable to have a larger pipe at upper end to reduce losses in pressure from fric tio n . It is also desired to renew 1808’ of present 16" VC pipe at lower end, which is encased in concrete, with 16H wood stave pipe before pressure is increased by in s t a lla tion of 24* pipe, as this VC pipe is constantly giving trouble. The 16" wood stave pipe authorized has been purchased but delivery deferred due to d e s ira b ility of providing larger pipe fo r f i r s t section of the lin e. The total estimated cost i f handled on basis outlined w ill be $22,170,, of which $10,175 w ill be chargeable to Capital Account and $11,995 to Operating Expenses, as against an , estimate of $11,840 provided in 1925 Budget Item 98.
