ADJOURNMENT Posted in accordance with Nevada Open Meeting Law (N.R.S. 241.000) at the following locations: Moycr Student Union, Frank & Estella Beam Hall, Flora Dungan Humanities, Classroom Building Complex and Thomas Beam Engineering Complex. ! The Society of Women Engineers UNLV Student Chapter Thomas Beam Engineering, CE/ME Box 4027 University of Nevada, Las Vegas CSUN Ways and Means Committee CSUN Senate Moyer Student Union Room 160 University of Nevada, Las Vegas 21 September 1999 RE: CSUN Funding Request One of the Society of Women Engineers' goals this year is to start an engineering reference library in the student lounge of the Thomas Beam Engineering building. Eventually, this library will consist of all the required text books for the freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior years, and it be available to all UNLV students. To facilitate their use by as many students as possible, the books will be available for checkout in the lounge only. These reference books will benefit all students who are studying, completing homework assignments, or working on projects. All branches of engineering (civil, electrical, mechanical, and computer science) text books will be purchased. Each discipline's textbooks will cost approximately $500.00 per year. Although this is beyond the immediate budget, it is hoped the freshman and sophomore textbooks for one discipline can be purchased this year, and the junior and senior textbooks for the same discipline purchased next year. This will continue until all four discipline's textbooks are purchased for all four years of undergraduate study. The Society of Women Engineers will purchase new textbooks as needed to update outdated versions. I am requesting $500.00 to help fund this reference library project and appreciate any consideration you are able to give to the request. If you have any questions, please call me at 897-2061. Sincerely, Katherine L. Stringham, President Society of Women Engineers University of Nevada, Las Vegas Student Government Office of the Senate President DAVID FISK II. There have been numerous incidents of police misconduct in regards to the students on this campus. The statistics show that 4 students were attacked in 3 days in the last two weeks. He is concerned in risking the safety of students. There is going to be a protest on Wednesday at 11 am in the ampitheater, please come and spread the word. Come to get more information. Alina Shell-VP UNLV ACLU- Just came up to back up what Joey was saying. We need to let the police know that we are aware. Catherine Cline-stated that she thinks it is important to show up at this protest for the sake of the constituates. IX EXECUTIVE BOARD ANNOUNCEMENTS AND SUMMATIONS STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT PECK stated that STUDENT BODY VICE PRESIDENT CANEPA is in her hotel class cooking dinner. Board of Regents meeting this week. Thursday and Friday the Board of Regents Meeting in this room, posted technology fee survey and statistics, pass the word about this. The Regents would give you the opportunity to here from you if you have the time and want to have your say. They will have food. Thursday at 1:00 p.m. and Friday at 9:00 a.m. I will provide an agenda if you would like one. Welcome to attend the meeting. Technology fee report was helped to complete with DIRECTOR NYSTROM. There are comments that students wanted to let people know about, the specifics can be received from me in CSUN. She read some of the results. The people who took this survey either really agree, really or disagree and those that don't have an opinion either way. We will be writing and talking with the Board of Regents concerning the technology fee. There was a memo put into everyone's box concerning the open meeting law for CSUN-PLEASE READ IT!! We want things to run smoothly. I have football tickets if you would like a ticket for Saturday's game. Encourage everyone to go to protest. E-Board will be in attendance. There was a question from SENATOR QURESHI. SENATE PRESIDENT FISK stated that he would like to encourage everyone to go to the protest. Also, he is concerned with the Homecoming bio's not being printed into the paper. X GOOD OF THE SENATE SENATOR FECTEAU stated that he would like to see the Rebels play a good game. SENATOR AYON stated that he is looking to attend the protest as well, so that he can be informed on both sides of the issue. Students are working together on this issue. Rebel Yell had SENATE MINUTES 29-36/ October 18, 1999 a great editorial except they provided evidence for something else and not the issue. The Rebel Yell doesn't know who is writing there articles, because the names weren't on the article. We are subjected to read this paper, this paper will probably fail, quality of the writing I wouldn't put my name on the article either. Have fun this week, and I can't wait for my last senate meeting. Glad to see everyone here. DIRECTOR WAINSCOTT followed the rules, and we need to look at each other and place blame on ourselves. This is the only counter measure we can take. The is the best rule. Maybe the Rebel Yell is wrong again. SENATOR WHITAKER stated that he is not going to sit next to SENATOR A YON again. Don't like the cops. And is looking for the RJ connection to SENATOR AYON'S previous comments. SENATOR TURNER had no comment. SENATOR P. MORADKHAN stated that it is amazing that as soon as they get the money they leave. We give it to them and it bothers me a lot. I hope that he does come back for the next meeting like he said he would (referring to the Athletic Department). SENATOR KNAPP stated that he like SENATOR AYON and likes the idea of a protest but doesn't like police brutality on campus. Also, Good luck on homecoming this week. SENATOR BASTUNAS stated that she is glad the job fair past and that the football game will be fun. She will also be at the protest, and believes that everyone should be accountable. SENATOR MCLAUGHLIN stated that she hopes everyone has a good homecoming week. SENATOR VENTURA stated that he would like to see everyone vote tomorrow. It doesn't matter who you vote for, just vote because there are no signs or candy. I don't care if people leave during the meeting, if we are helping them out, we are here for the students. Looking forward to Pauly Shore as well as the game on Saturday. SENATOR PAJAK stated that these meetings are an absolute joke. There are times like tonight where everyone is in such a hurry to go see Pauly Shore so we take care of business quickly, but any other time the meetings just drag on for no reason at all. I'll be glad when this is over. SENATOR CALLAHAN had no comment. SENATOR M. MORADKHAN had no comment. SENATOR SCHROEDER had no comment. SENATOR GREEN stated that he is against police brutality. And he doesn't feel that it is fair that the student athletes get to have two days to attend the fair and regular students don't. Also, have a good homecoming. SENATOR BRINK stated she wishes that everyone have a good homecoming week. SENATE MINUTES 29-36/ October 18, 1999 SENATOR QURESHI stated that she wishes everyone a good homecoming. SENATOR MAIETTA stated that he doesn't care if the people stay for the meeting when they ask for money or not, it just doesn't matter. Also, very disappointed in the Rebel Yell. Put together a business newsletter for the Business college with a few other senators. This week is alcohol week so be safe and be careful. Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity raised 70,000.OOlbs of food. Beat last years. And he will see you at Pauly Shore tonight. SENATOR ANZALONE had no comment. SENATOR ANZALONE leaves at 7:05 p.m. SENATOR AUGUSTIN stated that the Rebel Yell and CSUN never had positive relationships since the beginning of the schools history. He reads from a Rebel Yell from 1964. There is still student apathy and the university is going through the same problems now as it did then. SENATE PRESIDENT PRO-TEMPORE DAVY stated that the Rebel Yell didn't get $64,000.00 in 1964 either. She is hoping that they find some news worthy items in the future to print. SENATOR CALLAHAN and SENATOR M. MORADKHAN leave at 7:03 p.m. XI. ADJOURNMENT Motion to adjourn the meeting made by SENATOR DAVY, seconded by SENATOR MAIETTA. Move into a vote. Vote to adjourn passes 17-0-0.
