ftrF ( SCRAP IRON CONVENTION rcm erickson 10/19 "The scrap iron and steel processor of today presents simply a vitally needed above ground source for minerals and materials," said a leading steel authority when he arrived in Las Vegas for meetings of the Institute of Scrap Iron and Steel. Harry S. Marley, institute president, is in Las Vegas for a number of meetings with the western region of the national organization set for this week in the Sands Hotel. Group meetings will be held during the week with a series of major gatherings slated for the weekend. Marley will serve as one of the speakers as will Theodore Osmundson Jr., of the American Society of Landscape Architects. According to conference chairman, Mack Cottier of Los Angeles, much of this year's discussion will be aimed at cooperation between members and governmental agancies in eliminating unsightly caches of scrap metal from the American vision along highways as well as in city areas. "Actually, the scrap and steel processor has not been the real violator," Cottier said. "In fact most persons are aware that the major problem lies in the automobile wrecker and the used parts dealer. "So our campaign is designed to let us work with these people as well as to better police our own industry. So far everyone seems determined to cooperate and we think the whole problem can be solved." Delegates from throughout the west will be attending the event to be held in the Sands Hotel which includes several social events in addition to the meetings.
