SALARY INCREASES January 1, 1960 Approved His Honor, Mayor Gragson, referred this proposed Ordinance to Commissioners Elwell and Whipple for recommendation. Commissioner Fountain moved the following salary increases for January 1, 1960, as approved by the Board of Civil Service Trustees, he approved: Name Maxwell, Barbara Gardner, Elmer Skelton, John Avants, Beecher E. Foster, William B. Smith, Kathryn E. Johnson, Marilyn Mumby, Dorothy Kinard, Dirl Burke, James F. Leavitt, Gerald K. Leavitt, LeRoy Zepeda, Carlos G. Neville, William W. Berntsen, Ruby McDonald, Una Polk, Bernard F. Hodges, Arthur L. Baggs, Melvin Winn, C. Gene Lawhorn, Thomas E. McDaniel, Bobby G. PRISONER RELEASE Keith Elwood Perkins Authorized NEVADA DAY SOUVENIR PROGRAM AD Payment Approved YOUTH ADVISORY COUNCIL Resignation of Mrs. R. L. Absent: Commissioner Whipple. Commissioner Fountain moved the Mayor be authorized to sign the necessary papers releasing prisoner Keith Elwood Perkins. Motion seconded by Commissioner Sharp and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Elwell, Fountain, Sharp and His Honor, Mayor Gragson, voting aye; noes, none. Absent: Commissioner Whipple. City Manager Kennedy advised the Commission that in 1959 authorization had been given to place an ad in the Nevada Day Souvenir Program, on condition that such ad was submitted to the City Manager's Office for proofreading before final printing; however, this had not been done, due to an oversight; therefore, payment had not been made. Commissioner Fountain moved payment of this ad in the amount of $50.00 be approved and the Director of Finance and City Treasurer authorized to issue the warrant. Motion seconded by Commissioner Sharp and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Elwell, Fountain, Sharp and His Honor, Mayor Gragson, voting aye; noes, none. Absent: Commissioner Whipple. Commissioner Fountain moved the resignation of Mrs. R. L. Gresham as a member of the Youth Advisory Council be accepted and a letter of commendation and Certificate of Appreciation sent Mrs. Gresham. Motion seconded by Commissioner Sharp and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Elwell, Fountain, Sharp and His Honor, Mayor Gragson, voting aye; noes, none. Absent: Commissioner Whipple. Commissioner Fountain moved that approval of a Fishing Contest, to be conducted by the Nevada Club, be held in abeyance, pending a meeting with the Club owners on the Giveaway Resolution. Motion seconded by Commissioner Sharp and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Elwell, Fountain, Sharp and His Honor, Mayor Gragson, voting aye; noes, none. Absent: Commissioner Whipple. City Manager Kennedy presented a letter from Mr. Jack Pursel, Chairman of the Child Welfare Board, requesting the Commission to take whatever steps are necessary to make the contagious disease ward at Southern Nevada Memorial Hospital available to children 24 hours a day. Mr. Kennedy stated he thought it would be necessary to have the Doctor on duty examine children and admit them, if he saw fit, as only the Doctor on duty could do this. It was the suggestion of City Attorney Cory that the City should go on record as requesting this type of service be afforded. Commissioner Fountain moved that the request of the Chairman of the Child Welfare Board be approved and steps taken, as recommended by the City Manager, to make the contagious disease ward at the Southern Nevada Memorial Hospital available to children 24 hours a day. Motion seconded by Commissioner Sharp and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Elwell, Fountain, Sharp and His Honor, Mayor Gragson, voting aye; noes, none.
