J. W. CALHOUN Director T h e N e v a d a S t a t e M u s e u m Carson City, Nevada 89701 DEPARTMENT OF ANTHROPOLOGY November 19, 1971 CLARK J. GUILD, Chairman CLAYTON D. PHILLIPS, Secretary THOMAS C. WILSON, Vice Chairman HAROLD BERGER, Member NORMAN D. BROWN, Member WM. DONOVAN, Member THOMAS H. GALLAGHER, D.D.S., Member JOE WELLS, Member Dr. Charles Rozaire L.A. Nat'l History Museum Los Angeles, California 90007 Dear Charles: I wouldn't worry too much about trying to finish both Falcon Hill and Lehman Cave at the same time. I believe both the Brokses and Shutler want to publish in this series, and we still put out only one Anthro Paper per year. I did submit a piece of matting that was associated with the Brown collection, or rather a part of it. The date was A.D. 1040± gO on at least some of the associated feathered baskets. The"assooiation" is not true, of course5 I am just taking C. Brown's word for it. There is some deposit left in the cave, but the wole thing is pretty badly messed up. I had con- r sidered putting in a test near the front entrance, and may do so next year. The areas where the baskets were found are completely potted. Phil Orr hasn't been answering mail lately. I did write him once, and will try again. Sorry to hear that your time for research is so limited Charles. We are very fortunate here in not having too many interuptions. The judge died last month. It looks as if Tom Wilson will be the new Chairman. They are going to eliminate the dual role of Chairman of the Board and General Curator. In effeot, this gives the Director more power, Jim will continue as Director. Best wishes,
