AKA TEENS - The purpose of this committee is to cultivate young women and develop programs that will foster mentoring and tutoring. Workshops on decisionmaking skills, parliamentary procedures, study habits, community service, job training, and appropriate social conduct will be held.

ARTS AND HUMANITIES - The goal of this committee is to develop programs that will enhance the knowledge and appreciation of youth and adults for the fine arts; highlight the accomplishments of African-American artists; and keep the sorority informed of cultural performances throughout the Las Vegas community.

AUDIT - This committee is responsible for securing an auditor for the purpose of auditing the chapter's financial books annually and submitting a written report of the audit findings.

AWARDS - The goal of this committee is to assist the chapter and individual members in gaining recognition at the local, regional, and national level for sorority, community, and professional accomplishments; assist members and program committees with the awards process at the regional and national levels.

BLACK FAMILY - The goal of this committee is to develop activities to enhance the sorority's involvement in promoting positive activities for the Black family. Activities may include vehicle safety awareness for children; coordinating an awareness campaign to assist families in securing medical coverage for uninsured children. The committee will be responsible coordinating the activities for Buckle Up, AKA Kids Alert and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service (Spirit of AKA Signature Program).

CONNECTION - This committee shall identify and study local, national, and international issues that affect the quality of life for citizens; design strategies for communication with the membership regarding issues, and mobilize membership for action to formulate and recommend a position statement in accordance with national guidelines. This Committee will also be responsible for the AKA Day at the Capitol 2003 and Public Policy Forum 2003, a collaborative with the Congressional Black Caucus.

EDUCATION
IVY READING AKAdemy PILOT PROGRAM - This committee will implement a kindergarten through third grade reading initiative. The goal is to focus on early learning and mastery of basic reading skills by the end of third grade. This is a Spirit of AKA Signature Program.
ON TRACK - This committee will provide learning experiences and opportunities that will promote communication skills, academic achievement, enhanced study habits, and provide life-skills programs for at-risk youth in grades three through six.
THE YOUNG AUTHORS PROGRAM - This committee will design a series of activities/workshops to assist young children in the development of writing skills. Children will be given an opportunity to write a book, submit the books for entry in a regional competition. The goal is to have the book published as part of an anthology by Metropolitan Teaching and Learning Company, The published Young Authors will have the opportunity to participate in a book signing at the national conference in 2004 and 2006. This is a Spirit of AKA Signature Program.
