Los Angeles - Sept. 6 , 1 9 fy 174-2 W M . R. Mr. Wm. Reinhardt: SEP 7 ^50 (cc: Mr. T.W. Bockes Mr. W.H. Hulsizer Mr. Galvin M. Cory) I hand you herewith Order to Show Cause (Case No. 1207) in connection with proposed hearing before the Public Service Commission of Nevada relative to the investigation of insufficient water supply furnished by the Las Vegas Land and Water Company to the City of Las Vegas. You will note that this Order is in two parts. The first paragraph suggests that the Commission aa its own motion, hold an investigation concerning said water service in the City of Las Vegas and the second requires an official or officials of the Las Vegas Land and Water Company to appear before the Commission on September 21, 1950, to show cause why the Commission should not forthwith enter its order requiring the Las Vegas Land and Water Company to provide an additional water supply for the residents of Las Vegas. Upon receipt of this Order, I telephoned Mr. Allard, Chairman of the Public Service Commission, to secure information as to the method of procedure In this matter. He stated that the Commission would require the City to initially present its case and that the Water Company would present its case after the City had finished. He also stated that at a meeting of the Commission, held recently, the Commission decided that they would not produce as witnesses for the Commission, Messrs. Robinson, Shamberger and Jamison, as I had advised you in my letter of September 1st, but suggested that if we would request it, the Commission would issue subpoenas Duces tecum requiring the attendance of these three gentlemen, with such records and reports as we might mention in the request, as witnesses for the Water Company. I think the question of asking these gentlemen to appear on our behalf should be deferred until after our meeting on Friday. In connection with their attendance, since two of these men come from Carson City, it is quite possible that we would be obliged to pay their expenses if we desire them to attend the hearing and testify in our behalf.
