It] ;l-/iK T%i- liX. 016 s r> 1965 <&*&. ? ?╟÷ DON S4FRAN /: owan & Morfm Sfi/I of Top ITS BEEN three years since Rowan and Martin played Dallas. A lot of comic teams liave come and gone since then, but R&M is still the most successful comic partnership in the business Las Vegas dominates most of their time these days, allowing them occasional time off for trips like their current one here to play the Music Box. BUT LAS VEGAS isn't all heaven for the performer. R&M work the Riviera Hotel lounge. "Tffree shows a night is murder," says Dan Rowan. "It can bug you after a while. But working theBe on a regular 18*weeks~a-year schedule allows us time to do some TV things. And with that big 18-week contract to lean on we have a lot of freedom to play where we want. We have a lot of friends here in Dallas and thought it might be nice to come back and play some golf with--them/' Names Glitter at Sands... OTHER Las Vegas hotels debate whether to'go in the direction of the spectacular or the personality shows, but not so at Jack Entratter's Sands, And with the name lineup Entratter has there is good reason to forget anything else. The regular Sands stock company has always been awesome?╟÷Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davfc, Bed Skelton, Danny Thomas for a starter. But Entratter has now cracked the barrier wmx& mm* super-stars who've avoided Vegas all these years. ENTRATTER'S right-hand man A! Freeman says they've now signed Jackie Gleason, Lucille Bali, Doris Day and a iroge TV name who has never played Vegas before. He asked me not to mention the last name until the date was right up close. The fall lines start with Dean Martin doing three TV specials there in November, followed on Nov. 2126 by a rare teaming of Lucille Ball, Danny Thomas and Eed Skelton all on the same show. TO CELEGRATE the opening of the new 17-story tower at the Sands, there'll be a special tribute to Jack Entratter, running Dec. 12-22, with Sammy Davis, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Danny Thomas and Red Skelton. In January Sinatra will take over himself while filrnming a picture "outside Las Vegas, followed in February by Carol Burnett and*in April by Jackie/ Gleason and Doris Day. How does Entratter get 'em? 'It takes more than money", says Ah "We offer them something elsi sfhey know they'll he all right here." " ^_ _^^_ mfStontTiloren Debuts)... LINDA LAUREN'S show business career is one week old, but that's hard to believe. The former cocktail waitress who graduated to singer at the Executive Inn's Mayfair Room emerged like a butterfly out of a cocoon. Her gown is right, her stage manner is right and her voice is right on the beam Linda tries all the styles, from ballads to a rockin' "Cotton Fields" and comes across with the feeling that big things are in her future. Linda sings well now, but there's much promise there, She's on the bill with comic Eddie Hilton who has his moments, but .hadLa rough time of it the njghjj saw him. DANNY FLOORED Danny Thomas, left, stands with Jack Entratter, watching- the construction oo the new tower at Jack I Entratter's Sands Hotel in Las Vegas. A sign marks | what would normally be the 13th floor. It will be called the Danny Thomas Floor. In all, some seven floors of the new tower will be named after the hotel's regular stars. The new tower is expected to U be ready for the hotel's ..Dec. iS anniversary.
