Gentlemen: I t is respectfully submitted that the time of year has arrived when prompt consideration should be given to the adoption of methods to conserve the water supply, on which there is always a severe drain during the hot summer months. This le tt e r is prompted by the fact that a per­sonal examination made at 2:45 o'clock this afternoon developed that no water whatever was coming from the spillway at the reservoir. This means that a l l of the water produced by the well and springs is being used In the city, and in addition a portion is being drawn from the surplus in the reservoir to f i l l the needs. I t is Indeed early In the year fo r a condition of this kind to prevail, and is a warning of what can be expected when the hot months are here. Of course, a large portion of water Is being used at this time of year on lawns, trees, flowers and shrubs, and since la s t year quite a large number of very fine homes have been erected, p articu larly in the south portion of the city, a l l of which w ill require a supply of water over and above the to tal re­quirements furnished In previous years. We are as anxious as the owners themselves to see that a su fficien t supply of water is available to keep the city green and beau tiful, as in past years. Appreciating the fact that an ordinance must be published fo r thirty days before It Is effective, we are at this time asking that consideration be given to the enactment of an ordinance to prohibit heedless waste of water during the summer months. Sufficient water is pro­duced to adequately supply a ll normal needs, but it is waste which we must guard against and cu rta il.
