JQCO After Dark Summertime traditionally brings I . a ^slowdown in new nightclub acts in Manhattan, but the after dark scene at the moment shows variety, big name talent, and a- large number of clubs, both old and new, open for the seeker of entertainment and relaxation. Beautiful Kathryn Grayson head-v lines the Latin Quarter?╟╓s bright and I brassy ..revue, ?╟úInternational Holiday for Love,?╟Ñ bringing a needed balance to the eye-filling, splashy show. The fast-moving production numbers are a rpiisical travelogue, starting in Paris with a rocking rock ?╟ n?╟╓ roll, on to Spain where Queti Clavijo displays her remarkable flamenco footwork, then to Venice and ending up in tropical Topago, with a spectacular finale complete with jets of water spraying from ceiling to floor (and missing the customers); and two shapely girls Suspended in oversized bird cages gliding along the stage?╟╓s ceiling. In the midst of this musical mayhem, the lovely Miss?╟╓Grayson appears. Opening with ?╟úThe Night They Invented Champagne,?╟Ñ from the movie ?╟úGigi.?╟Ñ and -So. LgJ^QyjeiLixom. ?╟úKiss^ Me Kate,?╟Ñ she reveals a pure and highly trained voice, handled with ease. However, in approaching an aria from ?╟úLa Tosca?╟Ñ she seems to lack the ease, and her voice shows strain. In another I aria, this time from ?╟úMadame Butterfly,?╟Ñ Miss Grayson comes off with flying coloyS For contrast, she offers ?╟úI Want to Shimmy Like My' Sister Kate?╟Ñ (complete with shimmy) and the appealing ?╟úHi Lili, Hi Lo.?╟Ñ Comedian Jack Durant is the added attraction, and his act is a delightful combination of topical humor, insanity, pratfalls, songs, and a really good imitation of Clark Gable /(whom he strongly resembles) as Rhett Butler in ?╟úGone With the Wind.?╟Ñ The acrobatic feats of the St. Leon Troupe and the exciting dancing of the superb Bob DeVoye Trio round out Dqnn Adren?╟╓s extravagant revue, which playj^ twice nightly/ Reopening in a new location this week is Julius Monk?╟╓s Downstairs Room, which on'Tuesday night, July 22, opens its 37 West 56th Street location. Alice Ghostly (?╟úNew Faces,?╟Ñ and ?╟úTrouble in Tahiti?╟Ñ) headlines with a routine of Leonard Bernstein songs, popular ballads, and her own comic routines. Don Evans and Carl Norman are at the pianos in the former town house featuring an Edwardian spoof in deqor. Headlining at the scene of a former /United States triumph are Los _ Chavales deE span a, now playing two shows nightly at the Waldorf-Astoria?╟╓s gala Starlight Roof. A group of eleven musicians and choral artists from Barcelona, they present an extremely fast-paced exciting musical show that reveals the talent of this well-organized group. Among the best knownglndividually, is) Luis Tamayo, handsome baritone singer who also pla:y$ the trumpet and accordion. A singer with a wide operatic voice range is Alberto Rochi, whose solo appearances add much to the glamor and jgsmoothriess of: the group?╟╓s outstanding performance. Trini Reyes, American-born Spanish dancer, is female star of the group with her clicking castanets and precision dancing, clad on opening night in a dramatic costume of black tights and white blouse accenting her beauty. The flamenco dancing team of Isabela and Miguel are also featured with wonderful moments as in ?╟úGypsy JONAH JONES and his quartet give popular jazz renditions at The Embers Chant,?╟Ñ a dramatic, effective number. A composer performs at Max Loew?╟╓s Casanova Club, Second Avenue at 79th Street, with European pianist-composer Dagmar Nordstrom in a solo engagement. Popular and semi-classical music are the musical offerings of the star, who formerly appeared with her sister in a twin-piano act. One block away, at 80th Street and Second Avenue, tiny Erika?╟╓s is adding spice to life with its ?╟úInternational Artists Night?╟Ñ every Wednesday.
