L o s A n g e l e s , M a rch 7 , 1 9 5 1 1 - 7 3 3 4 MEMORANDUM: Mr. Roy Wehe: Replying to your memorandum to me dated Mareh 2, 1931, relative to electric power consumed In operating water production facilities at Las Vegas: Have developed that the amounts billed during 1950 for energy used on well circuits Nos. 1 and 2 are substan­tially correct. Am attaching memorandum of KWH reported used for each circuit separately but part of the year was estimated. Our Mechanical Department forces rendered month­ly report on consumption to our Auditor in Omaha up to and including the month of February, 1950, after which these reports were prepared and submitted to the Auditor by our Maintenance of Way Department. I am informed that during the year 1949 while Mech­anical Department furnished figures to the Auditor the amount of energy consumed in well circuits Nos. 1 and 2 was arrived at on a prorata basis and were too low as more energy was used in these 2 circuits than was reported. This accounts for the apparent large increase in 1950 over 1949. The charge shown in monthly letter issued by the Auditor covering cost of maintaining water station facilities which Included item for operating booster pump should not have been shown as this booster pump which is served from power circuit No. 4 is on the ooaoh hydrant line for Increas­ing water pressure in watering passenger trains and has nothing to do with water producing facilities. We maintain a log of well operations and attached is statement showing number of hours by months during 1950 that electric pumps on the 3 wells No. 5, 6 and 7 were operated. One booster pump at each reservoir Nos. 1 and 2 operates constantly the year around. During the hot summer months of June to September the stand-by booster pump at each of these reservoirs is also operated, depending on the weather, as such as 16 hours per day.
