L AS V E G A S , July 21, N E V A D A 1950 MEMORANDUM OF A MEETING OF THE CITY*OF LAS VEGAS THIS DATE, AT WHICH IT WAS PUBLICIZED THAT THE WATER SHORTAGE WOULD BE DISCUSSED AND CITIZENS INVITED TO ATTEND. The meeting opened at 3:06 P.M. As soon as the payroll, was recommended paid, the Hon. Mayor stated that he presumed the large audience came to hear the water shortage discussed. He therefore called on Mr. Folger to explain the situation. Mr. Folger stated that he was pumping, and delivering 1? MGD as of today. That care in the use of water was necessary, and as the summer was over half over, make the best of things. Mr. Bunker asked to make a statement which he read, as he said he did not want to be misunderstood by the Press, et als. (I think most of this is in the columns of the Review-Journal tonight). Mainly, he said that it always came back on the Commissioners as to the prevalent water shortage and he^was very tired of It. He was in favor of purchase by the City. He asked for a Commission ( he meant Committee) of 5 to be appointed by the Mayor to study the situation% The Mayor said there were only two Councilmen- Moore and Bunker- available to serve: Moore asked to amend Bunker’s motion -to the effect that 5 out of the audience be appointed to work out the problem Bunker agreed. Moore said then: Alright, Mr. B., you select one, then I will select one, and so on. Of the 5 whose names were called, all accented, and among them Mr. Otto Underhill and Mr. Harry Miller. All were to meet in the Councilroom at 7:00 this evening. The crowd then dispersed at 3;30 PM. (Mayor Crag in stated that 9 MGD was running thru the Sewg.ge Treatment Plant today- whereas 3 MGD was a better average, so there is wastage, but he did not know where, of 6 MGD into the sewers. A colored man got up twice, belaboring the UP. Mr. B. mentioned the inappropriate hours for sprinkling- as 6-8 AM when the woman has her house work to ao, etc. Present, after being asked to attend by the Manager, and at the suggestion of V.P.Butterfield, were: > r Butterfield, Bunch, Miller, Underhill, and Manager Claris. Out of town: Campbell ana Coulthard. Not present: Cashman. ( unable to reach him by phone)
