I will get back to you 2 weeks prior as usual to confirm the location. We will be discussing: The Invisible Wall by Harry Bernstein Overview "There are places that I have never forgotten. A little cobbled street in a smoky mill town in the North of Eng-land has haunted me for the greater part of my life. It was inevitable that I should write about it and the peo-ple who lived on both sides of its 'Invisible Wall.'" The narrow street where Harry Bernstein grew up, in a small English mill town, was seemingly unremark-able. It was identical to countless other streets in countless other working-class neighborhoods of the early 1900s, except for the "invisible wall" that ran down its center, dividing Jewish families on one side from Christian families on the other. Only a few feet of cobblestones separated Jews from Gentiles, but socially, it they were miles apart. A wonderfully charming memoir written when the author was ninety-three, The Invisible Wall vibrantly brings to life an all-but-forgotten time and place. It is a moving tale of working-class life and of the boundaries that can be overcome by love. For those who wish to read ahead: March - Testimony by Anita Schreve April- The Dovekeeper by Alice Hoffman May- Gap Creek by Robert Morgan Carey Tarter careytarter@gmail.com Aviva Book Group This daytime book group meets on the 4th Monday of every month at 10:00 a.m. We rotate homes as meeting spots and usually the home's hostess leads the discussion of the book. Apache, when we will be discussing "The End of the Jews: A Novel" by Adam Mansbach. The family members in this novel face impossi-ble choices between the people they love and the art that sustains them. On March 12 we will be discussing "The Confession" by John Grisham, a gripping tale about guilt and innocence and the toll it takes upon the characters. We will not be doing "Confidential: The Life of Secret Agent Turned Hollywood Tycoon-Arnon Milchan" by Meir Doron and Joseph Gelman, as a future title, as previously written, because this title is not available from the library nor is it in paperback. I am Randi Lampert and I am the chairwoman of our Mitzvah committee. I would love to see more people in our chapter get involved in Mitzvah activities. We currently have an ongoing opportunity to help out at the Jewish Family Ser-vices Food Pantry. We need volunteers there on Wednesday or Thursday mornings from 9 to 11:30 a.m. It involves helping the clients make their food selections when they visit the food pantry. I promise it is a very rewarding experience! Sandy Schiffman has done a fabulous job organizing our schedule and keeping us up-to-date with any changes. If you choose to sign up, you would be asked to volunteer no more than once a month, and possibly less, depending on how many volunteers we have. Please contact Sandy at Sandv.Schiffman@gmail.com or 202-2318 or me at relampert@cox.net or 838- 6099. We also will be returning to the Ronald McDonald House to prepare and serve dinner to the residents on March 11th. Members and children over 8 are wel-come to sign up to help with this program. We will be preparing pizzas at the house as well as side dishes and bringing dessert. If we have more people inter-ested than we need for that date, we can add another date later in the spring. We are always collecting food and toiletries for the JFSA food pantry. Please bring them to all Hadassah programs that you attend. They are especially in need of toothpaste, toothbrushes and peanut butter! I am always interested in hearing your ideas for other mitzvah opportunities. Thanks!
