OFFICIAL PUBLICATION OF LAS VEGAS, , ROTARY CLUB JUNE 1, 1950 TODAY'S PROGRAM The guest speaker for today is Briga-dier General McChrystal, Retired, son of the late Mrs. Isabelle McChrystal, and so closely related to the family of McNamee with two members in Las Vegas Rotary Club. Gen. McChrystal has had a most in-teresting career and we are honored in having him on our program for today. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * LAST WEEK Our guest speaker last week, May 25, was Mr. Eugene J. Ronan, who took for his subject "What Your Trade Association Means to Your Business." Mr. Ronan, a very distinguished speaker, gave a most interesting address, full of good advice to those on both sides of the employer-employer problem. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * COMING EVENTS JUNE 8TH—Conference report by all those who attended the Pasadena confer-ence last week, including President Leon-ard Fayle, President-Elect Allye Lawson, Secretary-Elect Harry Allen, John Seville and Dial Phelps. JUNE 15TH--Speaker of the day, Ray Flippin. JUNE 15TH—Instruction and initia-tion of members admitted 1940-50 Rotary *JUNE 29TH—Terrible demotion of President Leonard, at which our friend Thirsty Harshman, former District Gov-ernor, will be present to assist in the torture. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * ISRAEL DAY The attention of all Rotarians is called to the luncheon meeting of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce with all other Service Clubs, next Tuesday, June 6th, noon, at Hotel El Rancho Vegas. The occasion will be in honor of Reuven Dafni, first consul of Israel, on Israel Day It is hoped that all members who possibly can will be present to aid so worthy a cause. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * DIRECTORS, ATTENTION: All members, old as well as new, of the Board of Directors are requested to meet next Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., in Presi-dent Leonard's patio. Don't be a LUKEWARM ROTARIAN!! * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * CONGRATULATIONS Las Vegas congratulates Boulder City Rotarians on the fine showing they made at the District Convention at Pasadena last week.... Out of 66 Clubs in District 106 competing for the honors, Boulder City won FIRST PLACE for Youth Service and SECOND PLACE for mimeographed publi-cations. We all congratulate Jim Jacobs, President of Boulder City Rotary, and all the members of the Club. In attendance at the Convention representing Bounder City were Dave Laughery and Otto Littler. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * DETROIT CONVENTION The great Convention of Rotary Inter-national will be held in Detroit, June 18 to 22, inclusive. President Allye will attend the con-vention, of course. He suggests that there are many reasons why Las Vegas Rotary Club should have another delegate or two in attendance. He &ays that if some good Rotarian happens to need a new car (or something) he could arrange a great combination trip to include the great pleasure of the Convention and business on the side. A few of our older members remember Ed a*nd* a*re* g*ri*ev*ed* a*t *hi*s *p*as*si*ng*. * ON VACATION Lubicia (Lubie to you) our very ef-ficient and charming assistant secretary, is on a two-weeks vacation in Northern Nevada. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * LIBERTY BELL Last evening Rotary participated with other Service Clubs in the parade given in honor of the Liberty Bell, a replica of which was on display. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * WON HONORS. Elsa Kurtz, daughter of our Song Leader Sam, had the honor to be chosen Valedictorian of the High School Class of 1950. She also won a scholar-ship in McPherson College, McPherson. Kansas, There she will study the coming year....
