^LF.C. January 8, 1952. LAS VEGAS LAM) AND WATER COMPANY.( DEFERRED EXPENSES.) DEFERRED EXPENSES. WESTLEIGH TRACT: This is a new tract, recently opened, on West Charleston Boulevard, opposite the Charleston Reservoir. Most of the houses are above the reservoir water level. Water service to the Tract is tapped from the booster pump discharge line under a head of about 50 feet, which is now enough to give water service to the Tract, providing there is no power outage at the time. The water utility must face, in the near future, the expense of providing continuous water service not influenced by the intermittent power outages* The booster pumps are now required to be run continuously, mainly due to the load of the Westleigh Tract, Otherwise, in winter, the use of the booster pump (pumps) can be dispensed with. The utility has presented in their rate case data the anticipated for the Westleigh Tract as follows; A. For new Mains in Charleston Boulevard, extending west from the Reservoir,................ .. ........... New mains in new sections of Westleigh $13*000 Additional future extensions of mains 35.000 $ 48,000 B. Some type of air pressure tank or elevated tank . . . . . ? The utility realizes the need of continuous water service, and has in mind, so I understand, a plan to provide a pressure tank and booster pumping station to be supplied by the extension estimated to cost $2,110. expense $ 2, 110. COMPARABLE CASE IN POINT: The sub-dividers of Bonanza Village Tract were required to deposit about $65,000 in order to get sufficient water. The plan embraced the construction of a booster pumping station near the Clark Street Reservoir, costing about $20,000 (est*) I can not find out if this station ( equipped with large tanks under air pressure) has ever been actually operated for the benefit of the consumers in Bonanza Village* It may have been insurance that service would be continuous even during the days of greatest peak demand for summer water. The expense of this booster station was met by the utility, as I understand, as the Bonanza area demanded a satisfactory pressure -a***- which is an implied onus on the utility*
