I agree. But Sennes was doggedly determined to prove them all wrong. He held secret conferences in many of the largest cities of Europe, and suddenly and mystically things began to happen. The massive Stardust parking lots suddenly took on the appearance of a construction yard as hundreds of crates were being delivered to the new hotel each day. The confines of the hotel's Cafe Continental were declared out of bounds to any visitors, and guests wondered at the comings and goings of scores of beautiful girls . When the Stardust officially opened its doors on July 2, 1958, dignitaries from throughout the area were invited to attend. Many did so out of curiosity. They wanted to know all about Sennes' answer to the problem of signing superstars to entertain. The curtain went up in the Cafe Continental; and Lido de Paris, the most extravagant revue ever attempted, was an instant hit. The cigar-chewing producer-entertainment director had come up with the world's greatest floor show. Sennes has applied his magic touch to every subsequent edition of the Lido; and the all-new 10th edition, opening at the Stardust Dec. 28, promises to be the most spectacular of all. The Lido shattered every attendance record in Las Vegas and continues to do so with every capacity audience that crowds its way into the Cafe Continental. More than 10 million visitors have already seen the show, and the hotel is now planning to expand the Cafe Continental to accommodate those turned away each evening. -19-
