7V7f WVfa Of ^07"/!/?/ Meetings Thursdays 12:15 HOTEL LAST FRONTIER Editor - C . P. Squires JULY 7, 1949 TODAY'S PROGRAM Today, Mr. Edward J. Greely will dis-cuss "Alcoholism" , including the Johns Hopkins' "Twenty Questions." We hope not too many of us answer more than 3 "yesses." Not knowing what the questions will he, some of us are not so sure about things. * * * * * * * * * * * NEXT WEEK Next week, Jim Shaver will preside, for President Leonard will he at the 160th District Assembly (School, to you). On July 21st, President Leonard plans to report on the outstanding features of the Convention of Rotary International in New York. He will be assisted by Past President Lorin. * * * * * * * * * * * BABY ROCARIANS The following have been invited to join Las Vegas Rotary Club, in the classi-fications designated: GEORGE BOMAN, "Feed & Grain Distri-buting (additional active)" JOE McQUILKlN, "Chamber of Commerce" JERRY DRAVES, "Variety Stores". Welcome, fellowsj Your induction will take place in the near future, as soon as President Leonard can find a time for it. * * * * * * * * * * * * JIM MOSS LEAVING We are very sorry to lose Jim Moss, who has resigned because his Boy Scouts will keep him away from Rotary all summer. * * * * * * * * * * * * ON THEIR NAY Bill Ferron and Rotary Ann Ruth are on the wing for their regular summer flight. They are just now at Reno and Carson City, where they are visiting friends. From there, they will tour Cal-ifornia and plan to wind up their travels at their beautiful summer home at Laguna Beach. * * * * * * * * * * * * * HOME AGAIN President Leonard Fayle and former President Lorin Ronnow are home again after their month's automobile trip through the east and their attendance at the great convention of Rotary Interna-tional. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * VISITING RCTARIANS Because of the informality of our last wesk's meeting at the Tule Springs Ranch, it was impossible for Secretary Allye to get a list of visiting Rotarians.! However, he states that there were some guests who were not properly vouched for ;'* by their hosts in the count-up of tickets.! * * * * * * * * * * * * * * A GAY TIME Last week's meeting Thursday evening at Tule Springs Ranch was a gay, happy and satisfying time.... Even Lorin, the demoted, managed to come up with a smile i on his blackened face under the fierceness of his long-curled wig. Leonard arrived home from the East in time to be properly installed as President for the Rotary Year 1949-1950. The whole affair was most ably planned and conducted by our Past President Eddie Ciliax, who gathered about him as assistants such able tortur-ers as Professors Ed Converse, John Bevill Vern Willis, Sam Kurtz, Max Kelch, Jimx Shaver — and special torturers Lennie Shaeffer and Tommy Mills, who carry on their trade at the Health Club of Hotel Last Frontier. Dail Phelps handled the loud speaker installation and sound effects; Jerry Crowe manipulated the electric lighting system, and Otto Underbill, ripe with ex-perience, carried on the soft drink de-partment. The crowning happiness of the evening was brought on by Johnny Burke and assist-ants from the culinary department of Hotel Last Frontier, who provided broiled steake done to the queen's taste, hot and sizzlit from the coals, the flavor in the smoke causing the leaves of the great cotton-woods to quiver with joy. Everything which could add to the en-joyment of a steak perfectly broiled in the open air was provided by Johnny's assistants, and the girls from the Ramona Room gave perfect service.... It was a de-lightful meal served in an interesting place. Especial thanks are given by all mem-bers of Las Vegas Rotary Club to Mr. P. J . doumond, owner of the lovely Tule Springs Ranch, and his assistants, Mr. and Mrs* Cliff DeVaney, for their gracious hospi-tality. Games, swimming and trap shoot-ing were at the disposal of all who wished them, and many took advantage of the hospitality. Especial mention should be made of the appropriate and tuneful duet by Profs. Sam Kurtz and John Beville, and the very scholarly and eloquent address by Prof. Ed Conv.^se. Lorin, brought back to consciousness, made a farewell address in which he thanked the members for their support the past year, and expressed surprise and pleasure in finding himself all in one piece following the demotion. President Leonard Fayle made an ap-propriate address accepting the respon-sibilities of office for the coming year and expressed the hope that he could do as well as Lorin.... There are a lot of other things which deserve mention but in a sheet of this size, there is no room. (NO ROOM EITHER FOR "ABSENT" and hMADE- " UP" LIST)— below which the Editor writes: "Which is not a very encourag-ing start for the 1949-50 Rotary Year. Let's hope it will not be taken as a precedent."
