Las Vegas, Nev. Sun (Cir. D. 25,983 - S. 25,694) M. 7- 1969 cJiuen s 5?? Delcmey |kme9) t.tj is "Tessitura," an j Italian musical term referring I to the "general position, as to j pitch, of tones of a composition." A work with many high I tones is said to have a "high tessitura."-That was it. Bar- bra's "tessitura" which is fantastic on certain numbers is tough to take for 90 minutes, especially when there is nothing else happening. Pete Fountain has nine good men and true who spell him. Robert Goulet's tessitura would cause him a similar problem if it weren's for his warmth and charm. This brings up another point. Miss Streisand could just as well have been on videotape as far as her "presence" was concerned. The full house came to "love" a super star. Barbra is that but not ''in person," not from what we saw and heard the other night. We will stay with her films, legit show roles and her recordings but not too many at one sitting, now that we know It is her tessitura that bores ns, In person. Or was it? One more thought: Is Barbra the complete "boss" now that Elliot Gould is gone? It seems /us she could use a "no" man Watch for the rest of that "Pzazz "70" title to be phased out "quietly but quickly. We caught rehearsal the other day and. got a look at some of the sets and costumes. The new "Pzazz" is a million dollar plus production. It sure looks it. "Pzazz" will ease the "star shortage" which has been plagu-l mg the Hughes Resort Hotels particularly ^f. Dick Tucker at the Desert Inn mentioned that Joe McGinty was recuperating at Barlow Hospital, 2000 Stadium Way, LA 90026. Drop Joe a line ... Did Clara Ward make a deal with Judy Bayley to bring thej Ward Singers into the Hacienda! later this month? We hope so. I I They did great business for Doc! at the old New Frontier. "The Boys In The Band" will do just one Caesars Roman Theatre show nightly, at 10:30 p.m., Sunday through Friday, starting tonight. There will be a 10:15 p.m. curtain on Saturday night and a second showing at 2 a.m. Sunday morning. The "Bottoms Upper" rest on Thursday afternoons so "TBITB" will matinee that day with a 2:00 p.m. curtain. Prices remain the same . . . Suggestions to Dave Vic- torson: Why not try some concert type jazz acts for before and after ((TBITB" and "in- between" on Saturdays? For instance, Errol Garner, Miles Davis, Ramsey Lewis, Ahmed Jamal, to name a few Gene Sidoti, cartering mgr. and part of the original CP cadre, was just made Ass'l to the Food and Beverage director, replacing Monte Beallo who moved over with Johnnj Dunn's casino corps. Congrats all , . . Does any twesome in town know more tunes (or do them much better) than/Art and Dotty Todd, opposjfefcus? Morgan, h the Top/o/ The Strip at the Dunes? Delight Jul . . . Paradoxically, it should have been obvious to incorporate a record album for the opening of a IO musical before this but it took one very clever chap to see what everyone else stumbled over without notice. The "Pzazz" record album may not be etched for play but it will become a collector's item, making its way into the record library, to be passed along from generation to generation. There's a "PZAZZ" cornerstone to be envied! Chatting with Donn Arden about his manifold chores, he informed us he had regretfully resigned from the Paris "Lido." After 22 years of engineering and creating the internationally-saluted shows at the Lido, Donn was forced into withdrawing in (Continued on Page 32) FABULOUS LAS VEGAS THAT'S FOR SURE (Continued from Page 10) order to concentrate on his stateside assignments . . . complete time-consuming commitments. It's always sad to see the end of a long-term association but ... so be it! Las Vegas, Nevada Review-Journal (Circ. D. 45,065 S. 47,424) Jttlens P.C.B.
