Letter from Frank Strong (Los Angeles) to Mr. Johnson, March 13, 1929

Los Angeles, March 13, 1929. Mr. Johnson: We propose to establish flat rates of deposit by consumers for water meters and connections to lease line, Las Vegas. Please secure from Dodge or Los Angeles Water Department the make of the satisfactory meter that can be purchased locally; also, the cost in small lots of, say 3 or 4, each (price to Railroad) of: 3/4" 1" 1 1/2" 2" Also, find out from whom these meters can be purchased and if stock carried is such we can depend upon quick delivery. please, also, determine from Dodge the approximate labor cost (exclusive of excavating, which will vary in accordance with depth) of making a connection with main for the four sizes. Then, please secure data on cost of the four sizes of pipe and make estimate of cost of 20' of each of the four sizes of pipe and make estimate of cost for laying 20'. The object of the above is to secure date to be furnished to Mr. Bloom from which we will establish the amount of - 2 - deposit to be required from consumers. We will assume that the length of pipe to be laid in each case will be 20'. There may be instances where a greater length will be required,in which case, the Railroad Company will absorb difference in cost. In order to allow margin, the usual store expense plus 10% for contingency will be added. Frank Strong.
