DOUGLAS WOODHOUSE HONORARY MISS ELLEN S . CHAMBERLAIN April 8, 1957 Dear Charles: This is a hurried note--as I catch a plane for Frisco in half an hour.--the details will have to await my return. The only radiocarbon dates we have are on Pla, Plb, Pic, Pld and Pie. Unfortunately they are incomplete in that they do not give a complete picture of dating from each cave. The lowedt date from P3© is about 8000, and the lowest from P3a is 1500— yet, P3a is, in its oldest strata certainly Pleistocene, as we get thehorse there. Wwe will be unahL e to make direct comparison with culturla material to radiocarbon all the way through. On trying to assign certain objects to Level^3» % from different caves, we whill probably have to ustilize the cultural object more than the stratigraphy, for the reason that the strata, in many cases, is so mixed up by caches having been dug into older strata, that we are boudd to find the OLD stuff up on top in some eases. I would assume that a good deal of the damaged or "junk" material, is stuff which is older and has been dug up a number of times. levels are numbered from top down. That is: Number 5- is the modern forming level. Level !{. of Fishbone and Crypt, is Pleistocene. When I return, you more details. 1111 try to look up the catalogue and give
