O, Box 1448 G O P I STATE OF NEVADA OFFICE OF THE STATE ENGINEER Carson City December II, If51 Colonel H. F. Clark, Engineer, Las Vegas Water District, 900 South 5th Street, Las Vegas, Nevada* Dear Colonel Clarks When i was in Las Vegas recently you gave me a small drawing^ ^ i c h set forth the property owned by the Las Vejas Land and Water Company in vicinity of their wells and reservoirs, and requested that I advise you as to what land I thought the District should take over in the event they were successful in acquiring the facilities of the ?‘•'as Vegas Land and Water company. After considering this matter, I feel that at the off-set the District should obligate themselves to purchase all of the land as indicated on the drawing. Certainly, if later the District finds that some of the land is not needed^ it would be an easy matter to dispose of same. On the w» if you don’t purchase some of it now, and the water Company sol theS you tank out U t . r that you needed thia laud, It might be acquire same. Offhand, I would say that it is too bad that the Water company didh’-t retain more land surrounding their wells than they did, in order to protect their wells against interference with other wells. I certainly wish the District all success in their negotiations, as I have been, in the very beginning, one of the greatest supporters of the ^strict idea. The District needs the facilities of the Water Company in order to sup-port the importation of water from Lake Mead. I realize the many problems tha Smst be worked out and you may be assured that I will lend every assistance I can. With kind personal regards, I am Sincerely yours, s/ HUGH A. SHAMBERGEE State Engineer. HASiat 1
