NEWS & BULLETIN from .1 It ____\ \ THE 1963 MISS NATIONAL iWA PRESS PHOTOGRAPHER PAGEANT Mr. A1 Freeman The SANDS Hotel Las Yegas, Nevada Dear Al, I would like to express my appreciation for your kindness in again providing us with a vacation at the Sands Hotel for our Miss Press Photographer, this time, Miss Karen Marney of Houston, Texas. I*m enclosing a few of the pictures that I took of her while there and if you have any use for more, I'd be happy to send them to you. Al, I was a little taken back by your displeasure at me because the NPPA elected to hold their 1964 convention at the Sahara Hotel. As I told you on the phone, I have nothing to say about the choice of convention sites and although I was aware that a bid was forthcoming from Las Vegas, I knew nothing of the choice until it had been made. As for the Sands working with the NPPA over the years, I have always been grateful that you have given our queen a three day stay there and ait the same time I have always made every effort to repay you for this. I recall that when Charlene Lundberg came to Vegas, Bill McKay did a whole page spread on her visit in the Chicago Tribune. This year, I hope to have a similiar layout in the Houston Chronicle. This, in addition to stories in the National Press Photographer, and Editor and Publisher, and of course, information in all our releases sent out before the pageant, should be worth the cost of the rooms and meals given us. The picture story this year would have been much better if I could have gotten pictures of Karen with some of the showgirls and/or the stars appearing at the Sands, as I requested in a letter some time ago and as I asked you to set up on the phone. In fact, we waited for you, as you requested on the phone, in the casino Wednesday night from around 10 p.m. until 1 a.m., in the hopes you would set up such a picture. At any rate, please do not blame me because the Sands did not get a chance to bid on the convention, because I have always tried to play fair with you.
