APPROVAL OF SENATE MINUTES 2 0-03 CORRECTIONS: UNDER OPEN DISCUSSION, SENATOR TABOLA STATED THAT HE DISAGREED WITH SENATOR HOFFMAN REGARDING THE TREATMENT OF JAYSON LANDERS. SENATOR FITZPATRICK MENTIONED THAT HIS NAME WAS "FITZPATRICK", NOT "FITZGERALD" AS IT HAD BEEN SPELLED A FEW TIMES IN THE PREVIOUS MINUTES. THE MOTION TO APPROVE SENATE MINUTES 2 0-03 WAS APPROVED UNANIMOUSLY. IV. ANNOUNCEMENTS VICE PRESIDENT TAMMY FOUNTAIN STATED THAT THE ORGANIZATIONS BOARD WILL MEET NEXT TUESDAY AT 2:30 PM IN THE FIRESIDE LOUNGE. THE SECOND WILL OCCUR ON THE FIFTH AND BASKETBALL TICKETS WILL BE DISTRIBUTED AT THAT TIME AS WELL. CSUN PRESIDENT JOE BUNIN DISCUSSED THE CSUN-MSU RENT ISSUE AND HE STATED THAT HE WILL HAVE THE ANSWER TO THE PROBLEM AT THE NEXT MEETING. HE ALSO MENTIONED THAT EARLIER IN THE WEEK, PRESIDENT MAXSON APPROVED THE IAC COMMITTEE MINUTES WHICH RATIFIED THE NEW COMPACTION PLAN WHEREBY STUDENT'S SEATS AT THE THOMAS AND MACK CENTER WILL IMPROVE. CSUN SENATE PRESIDENT GINA B. POLOVINA STATED THAT THE COMMITTEE NOMINATIONS WERE ALL APPROVED UNANIMOUSLY BY THE EXECUTIVE BOARD AND THAT THEY TRIED THEIR BEST TO GET AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE INTO THEIR FIRST CHOICES. SHE ALSO MENTIONED THAT TWO ADDITIONAL COMMITTEES WILL BE FORMED—THE SENATE RULES AND ETHICS COMMITTEE AND THE CSUN STUDENT SECURITY COMMITTEE—AND THESE ARE MORE COMMITTEE OPTIONS FOR THE SENATORS TO CONSIDER. V. BOARD AND COMMITTEE REPORTS RAY FRANKULIN (APPROPRIATIONS) CSUN RECIEVED MORE MONEY FROM STUDENT FEES. COPIES OF THE BUDGET WERE PLACED IN THE BOXES. BARBARA MC FARLAND (BUSINESS MANAGER) ANNOUNCED THAT $45,000 DOLLARS IN EXTRA STUDENT FEES WAS THE AMOUNT CSUN RECIEVED. ANNOUNCED THAT CSUN IS BEING AUDITED. THEY WILL LOOK AT KUNV, CSUN, AND BARBARA TO SEE HOW WE DO THINGS, NOT THE MONEY. BARBARA ALSO ANNOUNCED HER RESIGNATION AS OF 12/31/89. KAREN SPLAWN (YELL EDITOR) SHE ATTENDED THE SEMINARS. THE YELL IS THINKING ABOUT CHAN-GING THEIR NAME. IF THEY DO, THE PROCEDURE IS FOR THE PUB-BOARD TO RECOMMEND NAMES TO THE SENATE. ROB ROSENTHAL (KUNV) $21,000 WAS BROUGHT IN. KUNV NOW HAS A WEEKLY WOMENS PROGRAM THURSDAYS AT 7:30 P.M. kUNV WILL KEEP THEIR NAME. PAT TOUHY (STUDENT SERVICES) REPORTED ON NATIONAL CONFERENCE OF STUDENT SERVICES. ALLEN CHASTAIN (PUB/ELECTIONS) ELECTIONS REFUND CHECKS ARE IN. HE CHECKED AROUND THE CAMPUS FOR SINGLE POSTING PLACES FOR THE EXECUTIVE BOARD ELECTIONS. HE ANNOUNCED THAT THERE WILL BE AN ELECTIONS BOARD MEETING AT 2:30PM ON WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 6, 1989 AND THE PUB BOARD WILL MEET THE SAME DAY AT 2:30 IN MSU 121. DISCUSSED THE ALCOHOL POLICY MEETING AND SAID THAT ONLY GREEKS WERE INVITED WHEN EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE BEEN. STATED THAT THE CURRENT POLICY FROM NEW MEXICO STATE WAS PREFERABLE TO THE ONE THAT IS BEING PROPOSED. STATED THAT IN THE COLLEGE BOWL THE PAGANS CAME IN SECOND. MIKE KENNEDY (NSA) LAW SCHOOL ADVISORY COMMITTEE MET AND DISCUSSED THE NEED FOR A PUBLIC RELATIONS AND GENERAL CONSULTANT. THEY ALSO DIS-CUSSED THE NEED FOR COMMUNITY SUPPORT. THE COMMITTEE WAS VERY OPTIMISTIC THAT THERE WOULD BE A LAW SCHOOL AT UNLV. TAMMY FOUNTAIN (ORGANIZATIONS BOARD) MENTIONED THAT THE SECOND LOTTERY AS WELL AS THE FIRST DISTRIBUTION OF BASKETBALL TICKETS WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE ORGANIZTIONS BOARD MEETING ON DECEMBER 5TH. Approval of Angela Windhma as a member to the CSUN Student Health . Advisory Committee. VIII. UNFINISHED BUSINESS A. Appointment to the vacant Education Seat. 1. Maria Bernardi 2. ADonna Miller Maria Bernardi was declared as ineligible by the Senate President Polovina due to the lack of credits. VII. (Cont'd) Senator Tabola motioned to appoint ADonna Miller to the vacant Education Seat by unanimous acclamation after she spoke before the Senate for 2 minutes followed by an unlimited question and answer session. The motion was seconded by Senator Geihs. The motion passed unamimously. ADonna Miller spoke before the Senate and was sworn into the vacant Education Seat. VIII. NEW BUSINESS A. Executive Board Nominations Senator Tabola moved to approve Executive Board Nominations A - CCC omitting Items B, F, and NN. The Item was passed unanimously by the Senate. IX. OPEN DISCUSSION (CONT.) SENATOR GONZALEZ HE MENTIONED THAT HE LIKED THE REPORTS FROM THOSE THAT WENT ON THE TRIPS. SENATOR BUNIN ATTEMPTED TO PERSUADE THE SENATE, ESPECIALLY SENATORS TABOLA AND SWANK, THAT HE COULD DO BETWEEN 3 AND 400 PUSHUPS WITHIN 2 MINUTES. UNFORTUNATELY, SENATORS COZINE AND KERSHAW FIGURED OUT THE TRICK BEFORE TABOLA AND SWANK, AMONG OTHERS, WERE TAKEN. STILL CHALLENGED SENATOR COLEBROOK THAT HE COULD WALK THROUGH A HOLE IN A PIECE OF PAPER. SENATOR PRATT WELCOMED ADONNA MILLER TO THE SENATE. TOLD SENATE PRESIDENT POLOVINA THAT SHE DID A GOOD JOB READING THE NOMINATIONS. SENATOR SPILLER-CLAUS HE DISCUSSED THE VOLUNTEER SANTA CLAUS PROGRAM THAT HE IS INVOLVED WITH. SENATOR YNIGUES INQUIRED ABOUT WHEN THE NEW CSUN COMMITTEES WOULD BE ESTABLISHED. SENATOR MILLER SHE THANKED THE SENATE FOR APPOINTING HER TO THE SEAT. SENATOR RAMSEY WELCOMED SENATOR MILLER TO THE SENATE. SENATOR COLEBROOK HE STATED THAT HE LIKED PAT TUOHY'S SPEECH. HE ASLO SAID TSHEANTA TOHRE WSAMSI THS ORRY TO SEE BARBARA MCFARLAND LEAVE. SHE STATED THAT JAYSON LANDERS WAS NOT A MEMBER OF THE BSA. SENATOR MILORO WELCOMED SENATOR MILORO TO THE SENATE. SENATOR GEIHS (TAPE WAS INAUDIBLE) SENATOR FITZPATRICK SENATE WASN'T AS BAD AS HE THOUGHT IT WOULD BE. SENATOR TABOLA CONGRATULATED SENATOR MILLER. STATED THAT HE WAS GLAD THAT SENATOR SPILLER WAS INVOLVED IN THE MISTER SANTA CLAUS PROGRAM. THOUGHT THAT THE SENATE MEETINGS WERE GOING VERY IX. OPEN DISCUSSION (CONT.) SENATOR TABOLA HE ALSO GAVE A SHORT SUMMARY OF THE TRIP TO THE STUDENT SERVICES CONVENTION THAT HE WENT TO ALONG WITH PAT TUOHY. SENATOR ELLIOTT SHE CONGRATULATED ADONNA MILLER. SENATOR SWANK HE CONGRATULATED SENATOR MILLER. DISCUSSED TEACHING QUALITY WHEN PROFESSORS TRY TO GET SENATOR KERSHAW SHE WELCOMED SENATOR MILLER. SHE SAID THAT HAVE A COMPLETE REPORT FROM THE PARKING AND COMMITTEE AT THE NEXT MEETING. ALLEN CHAISTAIN WANTED THE SENATORS TO GET THE WORD OUT ABOUT THE ALCOHOL POLICY COMMITTEE. ANGELA SLAYTON FORM THE STUDENTS FOR CHOICE COMMITTEE SHE WANTED THE SENATORS TO LET PEOPLE KNOW THAT THERE WOULD BE A CAR WASH ON SATURDAY. REMINDED THE SENATORS THAT THEY SIGN THE PETITION TO GET THE ABORTION ISSUE ON THE BALLOT. VICE PRESIDENT PRO-TEMPORE FOUNTAIN SHE STATED THAT HER CAR NEEDED TO BE PAINTED. SENATE PRESIDENT PRO-TEMPORE COZINE SHE MENTIONED THAT SHE LIKED KAREN'S, PAT'S, AND ALBERT'S REPORTS. SHE STATED THAT THERE WOULD BE A SENATE RETREAT HELD IN JANUARY AND THAT IT WAS MANDATORY FOR ALL OF THE SENATORS TO ATTEND. SHE ASKED FOR IMPUT FROM THE SENATORS. SHE WILL HAVE FURTHER INFORMATION AT THE NEXT MEETING. SHE ALSO WELCOMED SENATOR MILLER. PRESIDENT BUNIN HE THANKED SENATOR SPILLER FOR THE CANDY CANE. HE MENTIONED THAT HE THOUGHT THAT THE YELL NAME CHANGE WAS A GOOD IDEA. HE SAID THAT HE WAS ON THE COMMITTEE THAT IS CONDUCTING A SEARCH FOR THE NEW HEAD COACH OF THE FOOTBALL TEAM. THE PROBLEM WITH TENURED. SHE HOPED TO TRAFFIC SENATE PRESIDENT POLOVINA SHE WELCOMED SENATOR MILLER. THOUGHT THAT PAT, ALBERT, AND KAREN'S REPORTS WERE VERY WELL DONE. WAS GLAD TO SEE SENATOR SPILLER DONATING HIS TIME TO SUCH A WORTHWHILE CAUSE. WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO THE RETREAT. ALSO MENTIONED THE IDEA OF HAVING A SENATE CHRISTMAS PARTY. THE SENATE IX. OPEN DISCUSSION (CONT.) SENATE PRESIDENT POLOVINA SEEMED ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT THE IDEA SO A PARTY WOULD BE PLANNED.
