LAS VEGAS REVIEW JOURNAL J a n u a r y 2 3 , 1 9 4 6 Battle of The battle of the Buck’s subdivision alley f “bulge,” in the vicinity of the Costello Bakery j on Fremont street, broke with renewed vigor at the city board meeting on Tuesday, and ac- ! tion promises to be hot and heavy until March j 7, when a final decision on the problem will be | reached by the city. The bulge warfare broke several weeks ago : when Lon Delkin, owner of the property in the disputed, area, appeared .before the city board to request moving the Las Vegas Land and I Water company line which runs down the alley |. between Tenth and Eleventh streets on Fre- 1 mont. At that time he informed the board that the city engineer had forced him to construct the bakery structure some 11 feet west of what Was supposed to be the true alley line in order that the alley lin®.would jibe on both the north ; and south sides of Fremont street. Now, when he wants to construct a building on the east side of the supposed alley, he finds his footings just over the water-line and ulge Rekindles he has requested the city to force the removal of the water line to conform to a new alignment J of the alleys Delkin points out that when the bakery building was constructed, the curb returns for the alley were set as they are now and he built the structure to conform. Now, with the. wafer line where it is, his building on the east side Of the alley would infringe on the easement. The whole difficulty arose because of the “odd” survey of the Buck’s subdivision which attached an angling piece of property onto the.<‘ city and threw the whole survey out of kilter, city officials said. The city board ordered notices posted to vacate a portion of the alley in question, in order to line up the two alleys, and a hearing on the proposal has been fixed for March 7 at 2 p. m. The water compan; is expected to protest the vacation, contending the alley Was moved without its knowledge and. the long period of use by the company of the land establishes the alley line.
