At 2:00' P.K. the Western and Southern Commit tees were received by the Interstate Commerce' Commission, represented by Hon. Martin A, Knapp, Chairman, Hon. Judson C. Clekents and Hon. . ? r*\ Francis H.Cockrell. Mr. Stubbs, for the Western- Committee, stated the purpose of and necessity for requesting- the conferen.ee, present&dg- the three questions above cited, elucidating; each, and illustrating the impossibility of com­plying: with the law in the matter of preparing, publishing and filing revised tariffs within the time Specified. On this,and the other questions submitted, the Commission was asked to exer cise its prerogativex of affording the relief dBsired. On request, other members of the Committee supplemented the statements' made by its chairman*' and the questions were taken under advisement. Mr. Green for the Southern Committee * stated the desires of the Southeastern and Southern lines, and the meeting; adjourned until 10:30 the following; morning. Wednesday, August: 1st, 1906. The conference re-convened at 10:30 A.M.» Following further discussion, Chairman Knapp, suggested the ap­pointment by the interested Companies of a smaller committee but general and representative.
