    Thereafter Commissioner Whipple moved, the tavern liquor license of the Swinging Door Saloon, 111 North 1st Street, be reinstated, and. the Police Department in­structed. to keep close surveillance and report to the Commission, and in the event disturbances reoccur the license will be subject to revocation; further, that Mr. Gilson's application for license for three slot machines for the fourth quarter of 1955 be approved. Motion seconded by Commissioner Sharp and carried by the following vote: Com­missioners Bunker, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. Commissioner Bunker moved the application of Alfred J. Quodbach for renewal of his tavern license and one "21" game for the Little Casino at 110 North 1st Street, said building having been demolished, be approved for the fourth quarter of 1955. Motion seconded by Commission Whipple and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. Commissioner Sharp disqualified himself from voting since his firm are the architects for the proposed new building at 1st and Fremont Streets. Commissioner Bunker moved the following applications for license for the retail sale of cigarettes and tobacco products be approved: AL'S MARKET Albert Schouten 404 South 2nd BAKER'S VARIETY & HARDWARE E. E. & Helen Baker 1318 North "D" CHARLESTON INN Marie R. Philips 17 W. Charleston Motion seconded by Commissioner Sharp and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. City Manager A. H. Kennedy recommended that Art Trelease, Acting Supervisor of Building and Safety be granted permission to attend the Uniform Building Code Conference in Port­land, Oregon, from October 3 to 7, 1955 with expenses of $275.00. Commissioner Sharp moved the recommendation of the City Manager be accepted and Mr. Trelease be granted permission to attend this Conference; Further, that the warrant for his expenses be issued and signature authorized. Motion seconded by Commissioner Bunker and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. City Manager Kennedy presented a list of meritorious salary increases approved by the Board of Civil Service Trustees and recommended that they be approved effective as of October 1, 1955.
