P. Mack Las Vegas Fire Fuap Our Order A A 802______ Gentleness We re fe r to the Worthington fir e pump supplied fo r the above order. In accordance with our agreement with Mr. R* L. Adamson, we are supplying a nee shaft together with a new set o f bearings* fe have inspected the broken sh a ft, which is broken newt to the bearing on the coupling end. I t is im possible to d e fin ite ly determine the cause o f the breakage} however, th is is the id en tica l spot where breakages take place from misalignment. We are attaching in struction bu lletin W-300-E1C which goes in to considerable d e ta il concerning the fie ld alignments* A motor and pump can be mounted properly at the shop and in the fie ld , but s t i l l be out o f lin e a fter the unit has been placed on the foundation. Misalignment nay be due both to d istortion o f the bedplate when placing on the foundation, and by rig id ly connecting the discharge nosales o f the pump to the piping* In our agreement with Mr* Adamson we requested that the pump and motor remain unchanged. We further requested that the new rotatin g element be placed in the pump and then check the coupling fo r alignment. I f the coupling halves are found to be in good alignment, we w in supply these parts a t no charge. On the other hand, i f misalignment is evident, you w ill be charged fo r these parts. The most important thing to now consider is to make certain that the pump and motor shafts are in proper alignment so that there w ill not be further breakage o f this type. As we do not have the easing in our warehouse i t is im possible to properly adju st the loca tion o f the im peller on the sh a ft. A fter the rotating element has been in sta lled in the pump i t w ill be necessary fo r the im peller to be centralised within the casing by means o f the shaft sleeve nuts. le have advised your Mr. Adamson that the rotatin g element is now ready fo r your pickup. ifiS flt. fa? f Uyr * ,
