Sept. 14, 1949 Mr. Leo A. Me Name e HI Portal Bldg* Lae Vegas, Nevada Bear Leoi This will confirm oar telephone conversation relative to your employment by the Mater Company In oonneotlon with a proposed gross earnings tax on publie utilities wfaioh is eoming up for preliminary hearing before the City Fathers on Thursday, September 15 th. Some time ago, Mayor Gragln wrote Mr. Folger suggesting a meeting looking towards the payment of some fee by the Mater Company for the use of the streets and Mr. Reinhardt advised Mayor Gragln that he expected to be out in Las Vegas some time the early part of October and would be glad to talk It over with him and the City Commissioners and Mayor Gragln advised, through Mr. Blonde, that suoh aotion would be satisfactory. Mr. Reinhardt Is leaving for the East this week and oan not go Into this matter until his return. We have an appointment with Mr. Allard on Ootober 11th to dlsouss the water situation In general in Las Vegas and it was Mr. Reinhardt1s Intention to go over this other matter with Mayor Gragln sometime during that day If possible and it would therefore be desirable to have any similar aotion by the city delayed pending that oonferenoe. YbU| of oourse, are entirely familiar with the permit we now have from the city authorising us to use the olty streets and in view of your long familiarity with the affairs of the Water Company, may be able to think of numerous reasons why we should not be assessed the proposed fee, especially In view of the fact that we furnish free water to the olty hydrants and 1 believe to some of the olty parks although possibly not all of them.
