The walls were still echoing today with the thundering applause for Donn Arden's spectacular new |extravaganza, -Wonderful World," which opened last night to a jam-packed house' at Frank Sonnes?╟╓ I Moulin Rouge. j Wonderful Is a one^word description of this daz-jzling and elegant show, | ap1ty describes the singing "and l dancing of beautiful Anna Ma-Iria AJberghetti, featured pet-jiformOr through Oof. 22 in the 1 production. Anna won herself quite a 3 hand* She appeared in a stun-:ning pink; evening gown and J sang operatic selections, f an J Italian lullaby, and other songs, I then took \ part in a Varsity. jDrag dance number, a Ger^h-Iwin ?╟úGirl Crazy?╟Ñ musical | sketch and capped it all with operatic arias from ?╟úMadame Butterfly,?╟Ñ wearing a* lovely | Oriental gown that drew gasps , I of admiration from the audi-j chc e. | if For a surprise, Anna intro- II duced her ?√ß mother, and asked | her to demonstrate her ability las a concert pianist. Her mother obliged?╟÷and played a fast boogie-woogie that brought down the* house I Hardly was *the show over, and the ^thunder of applause f ading, when Milton Berle came on stage and brought up Frank Sennes for congratulations, as well as Donn Arden, who mod-; estly gave the credit to the j members of the company.* A ?╟úHappy Birthday?╟Ñ salute was accorded Sennes, and then on stage came Jerry Lewis, Julius LaRosa, Jimmy Durante, and ; Sammy Davis Jr. While Lewis clowned all over the stage, to the delight of the crowd, the others got in their ?╟úlicks?╟Ñ before the microphone. Other celebrities introduced, <at their tables, were Debbie : Reynolds, Erin O?╟╓Brien,^Charles r Coburn, Marie Wilson, Fess x Parker, Loueila Parsons and Jimmy McHugh. The new show is Arden?╟╓s | most magnificent achievement ] to date. The first act is titled I ?╟úAmericana?╟Ñ and opens with a i Wild West show that has more j movement and action than a i three-ring cirOus. This is a stunning production | number .wfiidh /fes,/ everything, | even a white horse on / stage* | ?╟≤ Act II involves The Happy | Jesters, a 1 clever male trio | "Which off ere; a wide variety of f. harmonizing, then comes a| sumptuous two-act 1 production ! number, ?╟úBig Ben Beat,?╟Ñ which | offers in Scene I, ?╟úTime for | the Blues,?╟Ñ a very British mu- I sical-daneing sketch,' with the I guys and gals parading about ^ in lavish attire, and Act II, { ?╟úTwo O?╟╓clock A.M.,?╟Ñ featuring f the Red Cfeak, as played byf Sandra Dale, who also is fea-?· tured in other sections of thef revue. ?╟≤ Following Anna?╟╓s appear-1 ance, comes the show?╟╓s produc-ff tion masterpiece, ?╟úAfricana,?╟Ñ inj-four spectacular scenes. Every-jf thing from pigeons to a trio h of elephants is involved, includ- i ing a witch doctor, fire dancers, I tribal rites, native girls and] fierce warriors. A sacrificial ceremony ini which a beautiful white maiden 1 ostensibly disappears in flames | climaxes this act. The stunning and imagina-1 tave costumes, props and sets, 1 the original music and lyrics, | the choreography, choral direction and musical arrangements f all blend beautifully to provide I a fast-moving, colorful revue I augmented by the advantage of E revolving stages and the newE ?╟úside stages?╟Ñ on an upper level, E where performers give the aii-1 (fence ?╟úSomething extra?╟Ñ for j their patronage. Dick Stabile?╟╓s superb orchestra contributes importantly to f the show?╟╓s sjuCcess, also offer-1 ing dance music, as does the J very popular Max Fidler Quar- 1 tet. ?╟úWonderful World?╟Ñ cost f $250,000 to produce; every dol- j lar shows; the result is the \ most magnificent musical show in the Far West.
