Greenspun NOTARY PUBLIC IN AND FOR CLARK COUNTY, NEVADA My Commission Expires Mar. 17, 1960, ORDINANCE NO. 742 AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 17, SECTION 12, CODE OF THE CITY OF LAS VEGAS, NEVADA, 1949 AT PAGE 254, BY PROVIDING FOR LICENSE FEES FOR ASTROLOGERS AND PERSONS IN SIMILAR OCCUPATIONS; REPEALING CONFLICTING ORDINANCES; PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION OF THIS ORDINANCE; AND PROVIDING OTHER MATTERS PROPERLY RELATED THERETO. The Board of Commissioners of the City of Las Vegas do ordain as follows: SECTION 1. Chapter 17, Section 12, Code of the City of Las Vegas, Nevada, 1949, at Page 254, is hereby amended to read as follows: Astrologer, etc. --------------------- For every person who carries on, practices or professes to practice the business of astrology, palmistry, phrenology, lifereading, fortune telling, cartomancy, clairvoyance, clair-audience, crystal gazing, hypnotism, mediumship, prophecy, augury, divination, magic or necromancy, and demands or receives a fee for the exercise or exhibition of his art therein, directly or indirectly, or incidental to the conduct of any other business, either as a gift, donation or otherwise, or who gives an exhibition thereof at any place where an admission fee is charged, $100.00 per day. This ordinance shall not be construed to apply to doctors, dentists, or other medical practitioners licensed by the appropriate Board under the Nevada Revised Statutes, or to persons employed by doctors, dentists, or other medical practitioners acting under their direction and control, who use hypnotism as an aid in treatment or as a supplementary form of treatment in the course of their profession. SECTION 2. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. SECTION 3. Any person who violates the provisions of this ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be punished by a fine of not to exceed $500,00, or six months in jail, or by a combination of any such fine and imprisonment. Every separate violation of the provisions of this ordinance shall be deemed a single offense for which the punishment prescribed above shall be enforced. SECTION 4. The City Clerk and Clerk of the Board of Commissioners is hereby directed to cause this ordinance to be published once a week for two successive weeks immediately following its first reading and adoption in a daily newspaper published in the City of Las Vegas, Nevada.
