JFLV BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING December 14, 1988 Arne Rosencrantz called the meeting to order at 7:40 p.m. and he welcomed everyone to the Second Annual Corrrnunity Board Meeting which was held at Congregation Ner Tamid. He then acknowledged the special guest speaker, Dr. Carlos Rizowy. He then introduced Rabbi Sanford Akselrad to do the D'Var Torah. Hal Gber and Dr. Marvin Perer were introduced as the Co-Campaign Chairmen for 1988 and Dr. Marvin Perer was introduced as the Campaign Chairman for 1989. Dr. Perer gave a status report on Campaign 1988 and the goals for 1989. Melanie Greenberg then gave the Women's Division Campaign report. Hal Ober then presented Arne Rosencrantz with an award for being President of the Federation. Other awards given were to outgoing president, Marlyne Kirshbaum, which was accepted by Melanie Greenberg on behalf of the Women's Division; Judy Frank and Melanie Greenberg as Co-Campaign Chairmen of the Wanen's Division; Dr. Neville Pokroy for Israel Independence Day, 1988; Dr. Vem Mattson of UNLV, the Federation Holocaust Education award; Nina Tiep received the Community Service award; Mike Novick and Sandy Walton were recipients of the Young Leadership Development award. The major item of business was election of officers for the Federation and Board Members for 1989. For the slate presented by the Nominating Committee Arne told those present to review page 7 of the Annual Report which had been issued to each person as they arrived. He then stated that a copy of the slate had been mailed to the Board 30 days prior to the meeting according to the Bylaws of the Federation. Having received no negative comments regarding this recommendation by the Nominating Committee, he asked for a motion and second from the floor. The newly elected President, Hal Ober, then introduced the guest speaker, Carlos G. Rizowv. The speech was outstanding; it was both informative and entertaining. Dr. Rizcwy has an outstanding delivery and those in attendance would have been willing to sit for an additional hour if he would have continued speaking. Following the speech Hal Ober reminded those members of the Board that a schedule of Board meetings was listed on page 35 of the annual report and reminded everyone that Super Sunday would be held on January 8, 1989 at the Riviera Hotel. He asked everyone to remember "when your phone rings, please answer the call." He then thanked everyone for attending and adjourned for coffee, cake and conversation.
