If you need further directions, Kathleen's phone number is 256-6262 The Youth Aliyah Luncheon was a huge success and our group is still getting rave reviews. For those of you who missed this outstanding event, here is a brief recap. The luncheon, scheduled for 11:30 a.m., actually started at 9:30 a.m., when hardworking Shoshanim girls arrived to set up the raffle table, party favors, and for the fashion show. When guests started arriving, everything was beautiful in the lavender and white decor, pink roses at each place setting, programs and Children's Pavilion bookmarks at each plate. Sherry DeArmas greeted everyone and then Jo Ann Geller, President of the Chapter, gave the Invocation. Senator Bryan was there and spoke briefly about his support for Israel and Hadassah. Alice Goldberg sang the Hatikvah and America the Beautiful, and Ruthe Spector (Sherry's mom) said the Hamotze. Dinner was then served. The Salmon was delicious and so was the Linguini Primavera. After lunch Lori Lipman Brown spoke of her trip to Israel in August, 1995 as our group's Young Leader Representative to Hadassah's National Convention. Then Lori introduced Leah Sichel who spoke so movingly about her experiences in Russia and Poland and how she was rescued by Hadassah and Youth Aliyah in 1950. In the Youth Aliyah Village, Leah was taught hygiene, how to dress properly and basic manners. She was educated there and for the past 30 years has been herself educating children in America. Fashions by Irene, Irene Friedman, then put on an outstanding fashion show narrated by Linda Pleeter. Models were Judye Phebus Skorina, Brina Drobnis, Debbie Gardner, Ellen Weinstein, and Ramona Luckman. As the models were changing, the raffle was conducted. Everyone who attended the luncheon had a wonderful time. Girls who deserve special thanks and have not already been mentioned in the above paragraphs are Sherry Mayman, Kathleen Menasche, Marcy Simon, Marcia Marx, Judy Mack, Pauline Paz, Amy Abrams, and Harriet Smylie. An extra special thank you goes to Sheila Simon who not only helped, but also donated the long stemmed roses that were placed at each place setting.
