Judicial Board-Steve Nielsen Presidential Award (Student Award) - CSUN Sanction Election Board Other Business Information Adjournment CONSOLIDATED STUDENTS UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA, LAS VEGAS MINUTES OF SENATE MEETING #13 SEPTEMBER 27, 1973 I. Called to order by John Moylan at 7:50 p.m. II. Roll call. III. Since the previous meeting was ended by breaking quorum, Hank Eilers still has the floor. I move that we recend the previous motion requiring the taping of all senate & committee meetings. I move that we amend the motion and require the taping of only Senate & Appropriations meet-ings . Motion by Hank Eilers Seconded by Rod Leavitt Motion by Gary Collie Seconded by Janet Greene Discussion on Gary Collie's motion. Call for the question by Gerry Beggs Vote on motion amending requiring taping except Senate & Appropria-tions meetings. Results - 5 yes 10 no Motion for amendment fails. Vote on motion to recend previous motion requiring tapes of all meet ings. Results - k yes 11 no Motion fails. Motion by Hank Eilers Seconded by Steve Jenkins Motion passed - unanimous IV. Old Business Motion by Marc Hechter Seconded by Gerry Beggs Motion passed unanimously Motion by Hank Eilers Seconded by Richard Torres Motion passed I move that we bring activities contracts up on the agenda. I move that we accept the contracts as a packet. I move that we have a roll call vote. Vote on accepting contracts as a whole Results - 12 yes 2 no 1 abstain Contracts accepted - 2 - Contracts submitted for senate approval Guess Who $12,500 B. W, Stevenson 2,500 Scroll 300 Dr. S. I. Hayakawa 1,500 Last Picture Show U00 Richard Torres pointed out that we must advance $6250 for Guess Who with the condition that if they do not show, we are reimbursed Further discussion on the Guess Who and the Convention Center. Election of Arts & Letters and Math & Science senators: Motion by Hank Eilers Seconded by Eugene Belin Motion passed. I move that we move election of Math & Science and Arts & Letters senators up on agenda Motion by Hank Eilers Seconded by Eugene Belin Motion passed. I move that we vote by acclaim-ation. Vote on Steve Johnson - Arts & Letters Results - 2 yes 1( no - nomineLtion fails Vote on Frank DiSanza - Math & Science Results - unanimous V. New Business State of CSUN Publications: Ken Baxter, Editor and Chief of C6UN Publications was present for any questions regarding state of publications. He will submit an operating policy at next senate meeting. Motion by Gerry Beggs Seconded by Rod Leavitt Motion passed unanimously I move that appropri at ions look into purchasing news-stands . Momination for faculty rep for Judicial Board The name of Dr. Steve Nielsen of the Speech Department has been submitted by Dan Wade and will be voted on next week. Presidential Award Tom Cook presented proposal for this award to be presented by the President to the most deserving student. Mot ion by Frank DiSanza Seconded by Ed Craw Further discussion on the award. Motion passed unanimously. I move for sanction for this award. - 3 - Election Board The election board will have the rules for election at the next senate meeting. Union Board Nomination The nomination of Robert Cameron for union board member was made by Dan Wade. Committee Reports Act ivit ie s Activities report has previously been submitted. Motion by Gerry Beggs Seconded by Hank Eilers Motion passed unanimously Motion by Gerry Beggs Seconded by Rod Leavitt Discussion on motion. I move that we bring the question of an increase in salary for the President off the t ab1e. I move that we vote on the increase in salary for the President to be retroactive. Call for the question by Gerry Beggs Seconded by Rick Cuellar Calling for the question passed unanimously. Vote on retroactive salary increase Results - lU yes 1 no - salary increase passed Appropri at ions Appropriations has allocated $1000 for campus promotions of touring groups for the music department. Motion by Hank Eilers X move that we accept the allocation by the appropriation cominitt ee. Seconded by Steve Jenkins Further discussion on how appropriations decided on this group. Motion by Val Buhecker I move that we table the question. Seconded by Steve Jenkins Motion passed - question was tabled. Constitution Operating policy presented by Marc Hechter Motion by Rod Leavitt I move that we accept the operating policy of the constitutional committee Seconded by Gerry Beggs - I t - Further discussion on Article 3. Change to read "if any member resigns or is dismissed from office, the President will appoint vith senate approval, another member. Other Business Tim Lafferty of Hotel Association presented arguement on activities handling Homecoming instead of the Hotel Assoc. as had been done last year. Nomination for Sophomore senator by Steve Jenkins in the name of Michael Rumbolz. Motion by Marc Hechter I move that we adjourn the meeting Seconded by Rick Cuellar Motion passed unanimously Meeting adjourned at approximately 9:^5 p.m.
