A . -C. Grant, chairman of the chamber of commerce commit­tee in charge of preparing the; data for the water district, re­ported today that the* petitions would be circulated within the next few days. He said that he had no doubt but that what suf­ficient signatures would be Se­cured to insure the formation of the district. The petitions, which are. ac­companied by a map of the dis­trict, set forth the boundaries of the district and divide j.t into seven areas. The acreage in these areas all lies in the Las Vegas valley. The district is being set up in order that the directors of the district may acquire by lease, purchase or gift, the lands, water rights, wells, water systems, properties, pipe lines, pumping plants, water facilities and all the supplying of water for do­mestic and irrigation purposes, to the inhabitants of Las Vegas valley, upon such terms and conditions as shall, in the opin­ion of the governing board of the proposed water district, best Serve the interests of the inhab­itants of Las Vegas valley, In order to insure the forma­tion of the district by the county commission, the petitions must carry the names of five per cent of the owners of real property within the boundaries of the district. Grant pointed out that only real property owners in the district would be eligible to sign the petitions, , The district, as has been point­ed -out, has been divided into seven areas, as shown by the map in adjoining columns. Each division will, if the district is formed, have one member of the board of directors of the dis­trict and the seven man board will be the directing fort:e in operations of the district. Division number one takes in the area north and west of the city of Las Vegas, including the Tule Springs section, North Las Vegas and the Las Vegas army air field. Division seven takes in everything east of the city of Las Vegas including the towns of Henderson, Whitney and Pitt­man. Division six includes the strip area,' south of Las Vegas, including Paradise valley and the hotel section on the Los An­geles highway. The other four divisions are within the city of Las Vegas, proper and their | boundaries will be defined when the election is scheduled. Grant called attention to th# fact that the creation of this dis­trict and the provision of water for the valley, will not dis­turb or impair, in any manner, the tax structure of Clark coun­t s A. M.
