Los Angeles - June 18, 1954 174-2 Mr. C. M. Cory: For your Information, I enclose copy of a letter from Mr. Jurden dated June 15th In connection with the second shop well. In connection with this matter, I am not quite certain whether we should at this time make any request for a rediversion of part of this water from the present shop well to the new shop well. You will recall that the contract between the Railroads, the Water Company and the District provides in Section II that the District consents to the reservation of 2.5 c.f.s. of water. However, you will also recall that this well No. 1 is covered by three appropriations, as evidenced by letter from Mr. Alfred Merritt Smith to the Water Company, dated June 21, 1950, which indicates that there have been three filings made on this well No. 1, namely: Certificate No. 1631» under Permit 7200, for 2.5 c.f.s. for railroad and domestic use, the Certificate being in the name of the Los Angeles & Salt Lake Railroad Company, with a priority date of August 23, 1924j the second - Certificate No. 1855* under Permit 7201, for 2.30 c.f.s., this Certificate standing in the name of the Las Vegas Land & Water Company, with the same priority date* the third - Certificate No. 1856, under Permit 7202, for 1.88 c.f.s., standing in the name of the Water Company, with the same priority date. Permit No. 15140 which was transmitted with your letter of June 11th would indicate that we do not have a formal certificate of appropriation for this water, and apparently such certificate would not be issued until we furnish proof ofthe various things to be done under the approvement of our application for permit to change diversion. I am wondering , therefore, if we have any formal appropriation of this 2,5 c.f.s. to the existing shop well which would be the basis for a new application for permission to change the point of diversion from that
