Walter R. Bracken: Los Angeles - October 1944 I have your letter of October 4th, having reference to the Kahler-Adamson recommendations for tributing system at Las Vegas. improving the water disBefore making a recommendation I want to be clear on one or two points: You advise you recommend that the present l4" bottleneck across Main Street at Clark Street be eliminated by extending the l6H main. While X am willing to make this recommendation, I do not think it will be supported by Mr. Prater, as the study made by Messrs. Kahler and Adamson indicates that while such extension will no doubt be required with further development, the 14“ line will furnish all necessary water for the present. This view was concurred in by Mr, Prater, and I feel this position will be maintained. However, if you .think otherwise, I am willing to make the recommendation, and if you desire it made please let me have estimate of the cost involved, including retirement of the l4H line. I do not think we would accomplish anything by gun- perforating Well No, 4, The producing horizon is cased with perforated pipe, and I think admits all the water that is available in that particular location. There is another thing: Even though we could obtain additional water by gun-perforating, I am afraid we would so weaken the casing by shooting the holes in an already perforated pipe that we would invite early failure. Therefore, I am not inclined to recommend this as a possible means of further production. I fully realize, however, that this year our consumption at times came dangerously close to our production potential, and with one or two wells out of service through sanding we might have experienced a shortage. As I previously stated, I think the best safeguard in this respect is a new and much larger reservoir, but owing to the heavy cost I doubt very? much that we could seoure authority, and it appears to me our best approach in this respect is to ask for one or perhaps two additional wells to the 800* horizon, costing possibly $20,000 for drilling and casing, with some additional cost for pipe lines, as against around $200,000 for reservoir capacity. Would like your opinion on these two point Another thing: Mr. Folger mentioned to me two minor connections he would like to have made, not mentioned in the Kahler- Adamson report and not covered in your letter of October 4th. I do not remember Just what they were, but am sure Mr. Folger will, and wish you would let me have advice.
