    ORDINANCE NO. 670 An ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 14, CHARTER 11, ALSO KNOWN AS Claim Filing SECTION 5 OF ORDINANCE NO. 240, OF THE LAS VEGAS CITY CODE; PROVIDING FOR FILING OF CLAIMS FOR DAMAGES OR PERSONAL INJURIES, WRONGFUL DEATH AND OTHER TORTS; PROVIDING FORM OF CLAIM AND LIMITING TIME IN WHICH CLAIMS MAY BE FILED; AND OTHER MATTERS PROPERLY RELATED THERETO, having been reported on favorably, was read in full to the Board. Commissioner Bunker moved the above entitled Ordinance No. 670 be adopted. Motion seconded by Commissioner Whipple and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. Absent: Commissioner Sharp. PROPOSED ORDINANCE An ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE TO PROHIBIT THE SALE OF AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS Agricultural WITHIN THE CITY OF LAS VEGAS, WHICH HAVE NOT BEEN PREVIOUSLY INSPECTED AND CLASSIFIED BY THE STATE QUARANTINE OFFICER; PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION THEREOF; AND PROVIDING OTHER MATTERS PROPERLY RELATED THERETO, was read by title and referred to Commissioners Fountain and Whipple for recommendation. PROPOSED ORDINANCE An ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING SALES OF HYPODERMIC SYRINGES OR Hypodermics NEEDLES EXCEPT TO DULY AUTHORIZED PERSONS AND PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR ILLEGAL POSSES­SION THEREOF, AND OTHER MATTERS PROPERLY RELATED THERETO, was read by title and re­ferred to Commissioners Bunker and Sharp for recommendation. PROPOSED ORDINANCE Commissioner Whipple, member of the committee for recommendation on the proposed ordinance Curb Parking to eliminate curb parking on South 5th Street requested additional time until the public hearing has been held on October 1$, 1955; before reporting. PROPOSED ORDINANCE Commissioner Fountain, member of the committee for recommendation on the ordinance to Plumbing Code adopt the 1955 plumbing code requested additional time before reporting. VARIANCE PROTEST At this time the Board considered a petition filed protesting the granting of the Variance PETITION to Jack Staggs, Grant Stewart and Dr. J. H. Swartzfager to construct a medical center on V-31-55 Lots 4 to 12 and 20 to 30 of Block 1, Woodland Park Addition, said application having been approved by the Commission on September 28, 1955. City Attorney Howard W. Cannon advised the Commission that the action taken on September 28th was final and all required hearings had been held according to law. Commissioner Bunker moved the petition protesting the granting of the Variance to Messrs Staggs, Stewart and Swartzfager be filed. Motion seconded by Commissioner Whipple and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. Absent: Commissioner Sharp, GLEN HEATHER Director of Public Works George Wade presented the final map of Glen Heather Estates No. ESTATES #2 2, together with a proposal from the Lusk Corporation to install paving of l8½ feet Final Map and curb and gutter for the east half of Rancho Road. Approved Commissioner Bunker moved the final map of Glen Heather Estates No. 2 be approved and the Mayor and Clerk authorized to sign same. Motion seconded by Commissioner Fountain and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. Absent: Commissioner Sharp. "A" STREET George E. Wade, Director of Public Works made a report at this time on the improvement of IMPROVEMENT "A" Street from Oakey to Boston by the installation of paving. Mr. Wade recommended that PAving Bid only the paving be done at this time, and that the installation of the storm drain from Awarded "A" Street to Main Street be constructed at a future date. He further recommended that the low bid of Wells-Stewart Construction Company be accepted. Commissioner Bunker moved the bid of Wells-Stewart Construction Company for the paving of "A" Street from Oakey Boulevard to Boston Avenue in the total amount of $12,637.00 be accepted. Motion seconded by Commissioner Fountain and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. Absent: Commissioner Sharp. BID NO. 55.17 Director of Public Works, George E. Wade recommended that the bid of Superior Tire Company Tires & Tubes for the furnishing of tires and tubes to the City be accepted, Mr. Wade stated that this bid Awarded had been checked by the Street and Finance Departments and it was the opinion that the Good Year Tires and tubes were the most acceptable. Thereafter Commissioner Bunker moved that Bid No. 55.17 be awarded to Superior Tire Company. Motion seconded by Commissioner Whipple and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. Absent: Commissioner Sharp. ST. LOUIS AVENUE At this time Director of Public Works George E. Wade made a report on the extension of IMPROVEMENT St. Louis Avenue from Maryland Parkway west to Santa Paula. He stated that at the present time rough grading had been completed at a cost of $484.00 for equipment rental. He re­quested permission to put in gravel on this street at an approximate cost of $1,500 for labor, equipment and gravel, or a cash output of approximately $700.00. Thereafter Commissioner Whipple moved that the Director of Public Works be granted per­mission to proceed with the improvement of the extension of St. Louis Avenue from Mary­land Parkway to Santa Paula.
