\ F eb . 17, 1920. 1899 Ml. T. M. Sloan, Los Angeles. Dear Sir:- Retuming letter from Mr. Woodill received with your notation in regard to equipment for the packing house occupied "by him under lease, at Riverside. I take it that the two bills enclosed are repair bills. Poes not his lease require him to maintain the machinery and equipment of the house in condition for operation? If so, I do not understand why he should submit these bills to us for payment. Referring to our conversation a day or two ago in regard to the general matter of packing house machinery and equipment. We do not propose to equip any more buildings with citrus fruit packing machinery! and in view of the action of lessees on several occasions in the past in going into the market and buying machinery and appliances and then submitting the bills to the company without first consulting us, I think it would be well to follow the suggestions which were offered when we discussed this a few days a&o and notify all lessees who occupy buildings of the company which were equipped with machinery by the Company, to the effect that we'will purchase no more machinery for such buildings, nor will we replace when they are worn out of have become obsolete, the machinery or appliances originally installed by us. As to the claim of Woodill for separator, etc*, involving an catenae of some $433.00 installed by xa properly sort fruit which was suspected of having been affected by the frost, while l feel that Woodill took aereatdealfor granted and presumed upon his relations with us by his action in going into the market aid purchasing this equipment without snySauthority or understanding whatever yet he been now one of our very friendly patrons, and V+5^miS?owth poor judgment to permit a breach to occur as the outgrowthox controversy over such a comparatively small ^^ich^e 5n- fore. you feel that by standing upon our rights, JJJJJJJ doubtedly can do by refusing to pay thisbull, we will ijcu ill-feeling on the part of Mr. Woodill, I am willing to authorize the payment of this Mil, with the very definite understanding,
