THEY MAKE 'EM TALL UOT and HANDSOME Every year the skyline changes in Las Vegas . . . and 1965 is no exception. The spectacular 17-story Sands Tower, central feature in a $9,000,000 building program at this popular resort hotel, is rapidly nearing completion. Unique in many respects, the tower rises directly from the reception area. Rooms are wedge-shaped with window walls 20 feet wide. Top floor executive suites have arched windows and vaulted ceilings 20 feet high! Last word in elegance, the new Sands Hotel complex will afford 777 individual rooms and suites and complete banquet and convention facilities for over 1,200 people. Engineering and structural features are no less interesting. The tower is built of steel-reinforced lightweight concrete, formed floor upon floor. And UTELITE, shipped nearly 500 miles from the processing plant in Coalville, was the aggregate chosen to meet the rigid standards of lightness, strength and insulating qualities demanded by the new structure. It is a high compliment to Utelite that the new Sands Tower will owe much of its beauty, strength and utility to expanded shale aggregate from Utah. UTELITE is a natural shale aggregate, expanded in rotary kilns under carefully controlled conditions at a temperature of 2,000 degrees F. It is chemically inert, non-hygroscopic, non-efflorescing. Available in 3 uniform sizes, UTELITE has wide application for any type of concrete usage . . . adding lightness, insulation, strength and uniformity of texture. Write for FREE literature or ask our Concrete Engineer to furnish you with data. No obligation. Entertainer Danny Thomas and Sands Hotel president, Jack Entratter, check on progress of construction.
