BOLTS, GALVANIZED May be cleaned by wire brush. Straighten, chase threads, paint rusty spots with rust preventive paint, regalvanise if badly rusted and replace missing nuts. Use bolts of nonstandard lengths as substitutes for near-by lengths, or if preferable saw them off, re-thread them and bevel the ends. One company removes nuts by a special nut removing machine, devised in their own shop, which removes one or more nuts simultaneously at the rate of one inch per second. Nuts may be applied as well as removed on the machine. Crushed threads can be straightened by using a special die that can be clamped on the threads at any point. See picture - Equipment and Methods, Figures 15, 16, 17 and 20 BOXES, CARDBOARD Cardboard boxes of all kinds should be carefully opened and kept for re-use. Excess boxes should be carefully "broken down" and disposed of to dealers for re-use as boxes. Broken or damaged boxes should be disposed of as scrap.
