    LAS VEGAS TRIBUNE O ctober 18, 1944. Parley Called To Obtain More Water for Vegas Clarification of the outlook for an ample water supply to provide for the present and potential needs of Las Vegas valley will he the purpose of a meeting called by Maxwell Kelch, president of the Chamber of Commerce, and set for early November. Current rumors concerning the artesian source which now supplies this area will be proven or squelched, Kelch expects, when officials of Union Pacific railroad will meet with interested bodies here. Officials of U. P. invited to the conference are W. H. Guild, ex­ecutive assistant-to the president; E. E. Bennett, general counsel for the railroad, and F r a n k Strong, industrial agent. Alfred M. Smith, Nevada state engineer; his assistant; . Hugh Shamberger; Clark county and Las Vegas city officials, and the board of di­rectors of the Chamber of Com­merce will meet in round table discussion on the water situation here. Commitrfients on what might be expected from Las Vegas Land & Water Company, a subsidiary of the railroad, will be requested by community leaders, thus' af­fording substantial background for proposed development her&.
