Lae Vegas - Marsh 3, 1930 % 23-1-43 Mr* Wa. Ksinfeardti Referring to your letter March 1st* file 1-733^# regarding proposed construction of 12-Inch water main in the business dlstrlot under VO-632* The bid of the Nevada Construction Gos^any vas made from the print and profile and contemplate* the full 2680 feet inoluded the portion north of Ogden* The oost aleo Included replacement of paying In streets and alleye* Their proposal to relooats fire hydrants at $150 each was la addition to the #9916 hid for water main construction. Their letter of even date clarifying this Is attached* Vlth regard to who should ddfray the oost of relocating the fire ^rdrante* the 01 ty paid onoe for setting the fire hydrants and it Is the obligation of the utility thereafter to provide adequate service* therefore 1 assume the oost will be assumed by the Water Company* However It is not clear why the fire hydrants should be relocated and oonnected to the 12-lnoh main* in m mush as the 12-inch and 8-Inch main# will be cross-connected, and fire hydrants are fed by a 6-inoh connection In either oase* It is my understanding that the I2-ineh line Is be Installed to provide more adequate general service in the business district, prompted by numerous complaints last summer and the 12-lnoh line should both correct this condition and provide more adequate fire protection. 1 suggest we leave the fire hydrants as they are and eliminate the #900 expenses for their relocation. JBy setting 12 * o* tees as the Job progresses and plugging them so they will be available if needed In the future. A. M. Folger
