PRESS INFORMATION ?╟÷ "Ziegfeld Follies of 195*+" at the Sands The Sands production of "Ziegfeld Follies" marks the first time the lavishness of the famed old Ziegfeld shows has been spread across a niteclub floor in 20 years* The last Ziegfeld extravaganzas were held in the Winter Garden Theatre in 193*+?╟≤ Rights to produce the famous shows and the use of the famous name were obtained by Sands producer Jack Entratter in 1953> in the final business transaction ever made by Lee Shubert just before his death. Shubert had boasted about turning down over 65 requests from producers here and abroad to produce the shows, but gave the rights to Entratter because he felt he had some of the foresight and ability of the late great Flo Ziegfeld. To bring the productions up to date, Entratter is using the name Ziegfeld Follies, but has tailor-made the actual productions to fit modern times and public demands of 19!?+?╟≤ He brought in Sid Kuller from Hollywood to write the special material and production numbers, feeling that Kuller1s ability to create special material for such stars as Bob Hope, Donald O'Connor and the Ritz Brothers would give him the exciting quality of material needed to carry through for 60 minutes of rhythm, action and song. To outdazzle the famous costumes and gowns of the old Ziegfeld shows, Entratter retained Billy Livingstone, designer for the Copacabana in New York and the Ice-Capades, to come up with the lavish outfits that are symbolic of Ziegfeld productions. Madame Berthe of New York created the gowns and costumes seen on the Copa Room stage, with fittings by Pauline Sutterley, expert movie star costumer, Kuller teamed with song writer Lyn Murray, who wrote the score for "The Bridge of Toko-Ri" to create the musical sequences that are orchestrated and played throughout the show by Ray- Sinatra and his orchestra. The extravagant furs seen in the Follies numbers were designed and created by William Baer, furrier, of Beverly Hills. The choreography for the girls1 numbers was created by Bob Gilbert, former Copacabana, NY dance director, who also choreographed the numbers at the Roxy Theatre for the amazing ice ballets and shows. Instruction for the new Ziegfeld Girls in their production numbers was handled by Renee Stewart, who also produced the Roxy Theatre shows in New York City. The lighting effects, with over 1003 cues and movements of switches controlling 7k lights, 6 mikes, and 3 control system panels are handled by Joe Mall, IATSE. Stage manager and coordinator of the productions is Harold Dubrow, Sands stage director and former Wm.
