Las Vegas Review Journal-February 22, 1950 Attorney General Says County Board Must Furnish Survey Money The Las Vegas valley water district today was assured of ample ftmds to complete preliminary plans for the project when Attorney General Alan Bible, in an official opinion, ruled that it was mandatory, under the law, that the county commissioners supply the necessary funds to bring the project to fruition. The water district has asked the commissioners for $25,000, but approval of the request was held up by the board until Bible’s ruling came through. Today George E. Franklin Jr., reported that the water board i would be given sufficient funds" I to complete the job “ but it 1 might be under the $25,000 re- | quested.” A commttee from within the 1 water board met with represent- |atives of the Colorado river | commission this week discuss- | Ing a contract which would as-jsure the district 8,000,000 gallons of water per day for use in the pipeline, and the committee, consisting of William Coul-thard, E. O. Underhill and John Bunch, r e p o r t e d satisfactory progress. The entire board, on Friday, jm et with representatives of the Blair-Rollins and Coe f i r m , ! of Minneapolis, which sent the men from the branch office in San Francisco, and the water board members said glowing approval of the project was given by the bond underwriting company people. Harry E. Miller, chairman of the water board, said the bond underwriting firm representatives, like others who had preceded them, gave optimistic reports on the probability of a sale of the bonds, and declared that the program was highly sound. | It was reported today by Miller that an election of directors of the water district would be held on April 4 to replace Thomas E. Campbell, Miller, Coul-thard and Underhill, whose terms expire this year. Registration for the election will open on February 16 at the county clerk’s office.
