As soon as we were advised of this result by the Hoard of Health we Immediately obtained the chlorinating machine (temporarily out of service from the open spring) and commenced dosing chlorine into the Ogden Street transmission main from which the North Side receives its water supply and hence into the rest of the system. This operation was continued for four days and nights and tests were made at the extreme ends of the system with the residual indicator to determine that the chlorine was getting thru in the proper amounts. At the end of this time the line was thoroughly flushed and new samples resubmitted from htahed cslaemae rleodc aupt*ions and analysis developed the contamination We thoroughly diecussed the matter with the Hoard of Health and the City Engineer in an effort to determine the cause as Hr. Carr stated we would be subject to law cults if people became ill and charged the cause to the water. He thought the cause might have been due to the close proximity of sewer mains and water mains In locations where they crossed over each other* but this does not appear to be likely a* long as the wafer mains are under pressure* and if this, were the cause it appears pro­bable that it would have shown up before now.
