This is 397*529 gallons less than to ta l production shown above, yet i t was necessary to operate pump in Railroad yard producing 1,000,000 gallons per day continuously during summer months. This apparent discrepancy is due to the fa ct that there i s 1 7/3 m iles o f lin e between point o f production and point o f meterage from which la rg e losses are sustained. There is also the fa c to r that any water produced in excess o f reservo ir capacity goes over spillw ay to ranch and is , o f course, not ava ila b le fo r d istrib u tio n . A physical check o f th is wooden lin e shows an extremely la rge number o f leaks. Absence o f any la rge pools in v ic in it y o f lin e s in dicates s o il is very porous and is carrying away water to such an extent that i t is impossible to even estimate amount o f lin e loss where lin o s are covered over. Replacement o f present 16" wooden stave pipe lin e w i l l a ssist in a lle v ia tin g these conditions, but whether or not th is w i l l s u ffic e is problematical. Estimate o f future requirements is rather d i f f ic u lt due to unusual conditions p reva ilin g on account o f the construction o f Boulder Dam.
